I have a Marlin 1895 GG, stainless, with a 430mm barrel. The rifle is well in excess of the 660mm overall length, in fact, I was admiring it today, unpacking for hiking as it were, and decided to measure it. If I could get a custom made shorty-pistol-gripish stock, (ala Wild West Guns Bushwacker), it would still be 670mm overall length.

Is it still non restricted, would it be restricted? I hate trying to interpret this crap. As long as it''s manually operated and over 660, it should be good to go correct? If I am right, I am going to start looking for the new wood.

BTW, I have shot this rifle from the hip with 405 remington factory ammo, and with the brake installed, it isn't as bad as a 12 gauge pistol grip.

As long as it's over 660mm over all, you're fine. Mind you, the only thing more useless than a shotgun with no stock is a rifle with no stock. It'll attract unwanted attention from CO's and cops too.

Being able to tolerate recoil from the hip and being able to hit the broad side of a barn (much less a charging animal) from the hip are very, very different things.

LOL, thanks for the help, it confirms what I thought, I saw some regs regarding 453mm barrels in the prohib section, but it applies differently.

As far as accuracy and such, it's not to bad...some practice will help a lot, I am going do the bolt on thing, so if it doesn't work out, I can always change it back. Like I said, no different than a pistol grip shotgun, or at least the 18" Mossberg I shot with slugs.

Small, short, easy to carry firearms are neat! But in the real world this man speaks the truth...

Factory loaded 45/70 is weak(fun, but very underpowered). Try reloading your 45-70 to its actual potential and your last statement will change.
