Hello all,

So I have a barrel in the gun safe that I pulled off a dominion army’s grizzly back in the day. It’s a 12.5 inch 3” chamber barrel and is threaded for chokes. Barrel is mint and doesn’t even have a round through it it has just been kicking around the safe for the last 5 years. Any idea what this particular barrel would go for in today’s market? Can’t see any other ones on the EE and dlask etc are all sold out of their short barrels. Thanks in advance for you input.

Well, I've seen in the last few days factory 14" Remington barrels going for $300 - $400 range. DLASK barrels are heavy barrels (I have one, a 12.5". Don't remember what I paid for it, sorry!). I've never handled a dominion barrel, but its probably not the same quality as Remington or Dlask, but I may be wrong. I also believe that just because something may be "hard to get" or is not common, doesn't necessarily make it more valuable.

As always, its worth what someone will pay for it; what the market will bear.

Dominion short barrels are pretty solid. Because your barrel is threaded for chokes, include a few chokes and start at 350.

The Chinese barrels are decent quality for sure and work great on chinese guns. Everyone I've tried with a Remington receiver have not been indexed properly and were slightly twisted. Most people don't notice and they still go bang, but I'd prefer rem barrels on rem shotguns and Chinese barrels on Chinese receivers personally.

I'm sure there are some out there that might line up and I've only tried maybe 3 different barrels on 2 different receivers and they were consistently off from my somewhat limited , but consistent experience.

I bought a Grizzly pump 12G, 2-3/4"-3" chamber, 12.5" barrel with threaded modified choke, ghost ring sights from Canada Ammo in 2008 for $310.00.
Getting $250 just for the barrel strikes me as doing pretty good on it.

Those barrels will take Carlson: Winchester-Browning Inv.-Moss 500 flush mount chokes.
The type of choke that has the longer unthreaded portion at bottom of choke.

Mine currently has a Carlson's 12212 improved cylinder choke in it for shooting rifled slugs, $50 on amazon.ca.

IIRC I paid $267 or something like that for my Grizzly from CanadaAmmo's 2nd shipment. It's never missed a beat!

IMHO the barrel is worth $150, but obviously I'm on the low end with guys willing to pay way more!

Cheers
Jay

My Chinese 12" barrel on Remington 870 Express receiver looks and shoots straight, at least to my eye.

As you say, some are fine, and some aren't. The OP's barrel may be worth more if he can test fit/fire on a Remington receiver.

It's worth what a buyer is willing to pay. I can imagine that number being pretty high since there is no current new production source for 12" 870 barrels.

Poorly indexed sights and barrel ring guides are common with the Chinese barrels. That said, I have never noticed any issues with accuracy or function with the half dozen or so I have owned throughout the years. $250 is a good offer, since the market hasn't seen such a thing for a while you may get more without trouble.
