Hi,

I have a M1916 Spanish Mauser ( short rifle or carbine) in 7.62. There is no date stamp and I can't seem to find a database of serial numbers online. Can any one point me in the direction of a website to find out the date of my mauser? The serial number is 27###. Thanks

Spanish rifles should have a date CODE, likely on the underside of the barrel or under the handguard.

There is a Stickie (4th one down) over on Black Powder and Antiques which includes Spanish date codes and proof marks.

My DESTROYER carbine, for example, is coded HI, which translates out to 1962.

Hope this helps.

'help dating a Spanish mauser'.....I thought this thread was about asking out homely Latino? Turns out its about guns. In that case....sorry cant help ya!

I knew I should have worded the title differently!

Thanks Smellie, I found an "R" stamp under the top hand guard and that means its from 1947. Always appreciate your knowledge and assistance!

1947 means it was rebuilt at some time. No 7.62 in 1947. Mind you, it might have been made in .30-06. Far more likely to have been re-barreled to 7.62NATO or 7.62 Cetme. The latter NOT being the same as the NATO. And it matters.

Spanish is like French, there are masculine and feminine words. A Latino is a man. A Latina is a woman. Just clearing things up so you don't embarrass yourself at the bar.
