New gun, Savage model 42, over under, .22/.410.
After many shots, I ended up as close as 20', getting 4" groups at best with open sights.
I have the rear sight as far over as possible, but I can not correct the fact that it is shooting 3" left, even at 20'.
I am frustrated, there is no more horizontal room left to move, and even if it did, it is still a massive group.
I tried 4 different .22 rounds, all the same results.
Any thoughts as to what may be happening?

A local shooting buddy bought one of these thinking it was the return of the old classic. He ran into the same issues as you are seeing and returned it for a second one. I haven't heard if he's got issues with this one as well or not.

I thought it was an isolated goof up. Any maker can have the odd one. Your story makes two.

Thanks guys, I checked everything I could. I could shift the POI a bit with adjusting, but never to where it was supposed to go.
I brought the gun back, they offered me an exchange, but no other were in the store, so it is on it's way to a smith this morning, on the shops dime.

I will keep the thread udated with results.
I did not mess with the shotgun side too much, I needed to get over the hurdle of the .22 first. Shot it a few times, but that's about it.

Find out the problem on mine and cured it with a solution that work pretty good... The front band - post is made of plastic, after a few shots, it heat up and it distorsioned very bad shiffting the POI a lot, so a metal one would cure it or mine got a cheap Buckmark Holographic sight, you take out the original sight and use a Weaver base # 61, 47 may fit to... Just adjust for the 22 lr for it and for wing shots the POI is close enough, it work great with the dot with a circle around it... JP.

When you find out, let Savage know! I think they need some help in this matter. Have you determined the regulation of the shotgun barrel?
That's kind of an odd statment. Savage has been making combination guns since what the end of WW2 or the 1950s.
The real deal is most they don't give a s### or some kind of better manufacturing or quality assurance checks would have picked this up on day one.
