This is embarassing...

I just bought a CZ75B (complete with manual for those of you who will tell me to read the manual) and tried to disassemble it for cleaning for the first time.

I lined up the marker lines on the left side and tapped out the slide stop. Up to this point all is well. The next step involves pulling the slide and barrel off the frame, which for whatever reason I can't figure out. I tried lifting it off, allowing the slide to move forward and just about everything I could think of and I couldn't separate the slide and barrel from the frame???

Am I missing something or is there some trick to this? Any help\advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You cannot lift it off as their are rails in which the slide moves.

Once the slide stop is completely out of the gun, the slide & barrel should move forward until they come off the frame at the front .
It's been a number of years since I had one but if I remember the safety should be off . I forget if it matters if the hammer has to be down or not.

Does the slide move backwards or is it stuck ? . Have you fired the gun yet ??

magazine?

Have you removed the mag ?
Some time is just the more obvious thing that we miss.
just a thought .

Pull the trigger while pulling the slide forward.

Its not necessary, but it makes it slide off without effort. If you don't pull the trigger you have to pull the slide forward with a bit of force...

- remove the magazine
- #### it
- align the markers while holding the gun in your left hand
- use the magazine to push the stop pin out by 1/4" (using your right hand)
- remove the stopper pin with your right hand
- use your thumb (right hand) to push slide forward

It is a 5 sec job if you follow the above steps

Thanks everyone. I'll give it another try. I did everything described in af newbie's post except the last part (i.e. push slide forward), where I was having problems. I had removed the slide stop and slowly eased the slide forward at which point it just stops and refuses to go any further. I don't get it but I'll give it another try.

To colinjw -- the slide moves backward and forwards (but only to its original starting point and not any further). I've fired it a couple of times (I couldn't resist) and now I just want to clean it. It functioned really well but the trigger is a bit stiff. I'm hoping that it'll lighten up after a few hundred more rounds.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks.

"...the trigger is a bit stiff..." Is it brand new? Due to frivolous U.S. laws suits, nearly all new firearms come with poor triggers. It needs a trigger job.
Your slide should come off towards the front. If it doesn't come off easily, as it apparently doesn't, the barrel may have come out of the locking lugs. Put it back together and start over. You shouldn't have to pull the trigger at all. Sometimes a bit of wiggling and jiggling helps.

Sunray how much do you charge for those trigger jobs?

In answer to Sunray's question, the CZ75 is brand new. That's why I thought that the trigger would smooth out after a few hundred rounds. Thanks for the suggestion on the barrel coming loose. The slide does feel pretty tight like it's caught on something. I'll play with it tomorrow when I have some more time. I'm sure that it's something simple.

With respect to Dbeato, I did have the hammer at half ####, which helped with lining up the slide marker lines but didn't really help with moving the slide off the frame.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

London22, when you figure out how to solve the problem, I would be very interested in hearing your solution. I had a CZ75bd, which I should have kept!!!!!, but after 500 rounds or so, I sold it. I never did field strip it because, being the doofus that I am, I figured I would get the thing apart and then never get it back together again. This is why I started a thread some time ago about which semi-auto was the easiest bar none to field strip. The Beretta 92 seemed to come out on top.

Still, I could always shoot best with the CZ and I may well get another one next spring. I did like that pistol. Please let us know when you conquer the thing. Thanks.

London,

Put everyting back, can you operate the slide?
Is the gun oerational? Any lead buildup visible?

When you push with your thumb (in the last step), you should feel a little
resistance, but give it a little push, don't be shy. It might feel like it is stuck,
but it will come off.

Hey everyone,

I finally figured it out...well, mostly it was an accident.

I had the gun at half #### and removed the slide stop. I tried to move the slide down the rail but had the same problem as before. I remembered what Darko had posted, which was to pull the trigger. I have to admit that when I read it, I thought it was a dumb idea, but I gave it a try anyway and eased the hammer down while pulling the trigger. Imagine my surprise when the slide actually slid forward after that. It was a little sticky but it moved.

I've since taken it apart and put it back to together a couple of times since then just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I checked the instruction book afterwards and it actually suggests putting the hammer into a half #### position to make it easier to line up the markers. It doesn't say anything about bringing the hammer down after to move the slide forward. Anyways, as everyone says, it was a snap to take down and put back together after that.

Thanks for your help.
