Hey guys, I decided to pick up a little TT-33 just to say I had one. 1945 production, took it to the range today for the first time with milsurp ammo. 3 mags and I only had 1 round shoot the first try. I ejected 1 to find that the pin was indeed hitting the primer. I didnt like doing it, but everytime I had a FTF and recocked it, it would fire. Some times on the second, third or fourth try it eventually would fire off the round, cycle a new round and do the same thing over.. Any ideas?

I know, stupide question... Did you took apart the gun and remove all the grease everywhere ? Remove the trigger kit and try it by hand, does it do the cycle very stiff or is it smooth ? If too smooth , put it in break cleaner, rince it and put oil.
I got the thing spotless. Every where I can see it. Where I couldnt, like the pin assembly and the trigger assembly I soaked in brake cleaner. Both work what seems fine. Not to stiff yet still have resistance. I did apply a skiff of gun grease. But now with the corrosive ammo I took it apart to clean it, so I used regular oil this time. It seems like if I push the rear of the firing pin with a screw driver it projects further than if I slide the trigger assembly in and I use the trigger assembly (if that makes sence). Not sure if its normal for the fin not to go all the way out.
It make sence, you did your work, I have 2 Tokarev 1945, one did shoot many many rounds in its previous Life, not to reliable, however, m'y second one works greats. I would suggest to compare the travel range of your fire pin with another Tok,

What ammo are you shooting? Chez aym 53, bxn 54 as well as Polish 21 69 during cold weather have trouble of igniting the charge on first strike. 50's surplus is hit and miss. I had a crate of 51 bxn green steel case, fired at any temperature.
Try new ammo from s&b or partizan, should fire ok.
I was just using the surplus stuff canada ammo has. Not sure what type it is. I did go out again today, shot 3 mags. 2 rounds per mag had issues. Much much better. So since the first visit I have cleaned out the gun grease I applied and opted for oil instead. And I kept my ammo on the defrost vent of the truck on the trip to the range. I just ordered a box of comercial ammo to try out next week.
When you cleaned the grease out did you pull the firing pin and clean it and the firing pin bore? Mine was totally plugged with goop when I took it apart when I first got it, and this was after giving the whole gun a soak and scrub in varsol. The firing pin couldn't move freely. If I hadn't disassembled and cleaned it out I might have had the same problems you had when I first shot it. But my TT33 has been totally reliable from day one. Just a possibility.

As other have said...clean it and then clean it again!!! Cosmo can hide any and everywhere and it make look spotless but when your firing the gun and it is warming up it can seep out of all the cracks and crevices and start to jam up the gun. Boiling hot water helps get rid of it all as well as to get rid of the corrosive salts from the primers after use of surplus...clean with oil after the boiling water.
Making sure your mags are cleaned of cosmo helps too and a light polish of the chamber can do wonders as well
