Help healing my sick M39’s scope

Interesting, I have a M-39 with a PE scope and a PEM side mount.

The combination was put together by a friend of mine.

On the various Mosin Nagant and Finnish sites the only Mosin Nagants that have the PE and PEM combination are the M 91/30s, but I could have missed a picture.

I think the swept back bolt handle is the give away !

I found a picture of a M28/30 or a M39 with what looks like a PE scope and PEM mounting.

I googled " finnish mosin nagant sniper rifles ", clicked on images and scrolled down and found a picture but it was in Pinerest.

I’m certain that such examples were made. Not officially perhaps, but there is lots of evidence of Finnish rifles equipped with all manner of scopes. I’ve even seen a photo of a cut down M27 or 28-30 with a scope mounted.

Anything goes when the Russian army is marching across your lawn, I suppose...

PEM side mount M39's were legitimately made. there are period photographs of them and known good examples in collections and museums. they were not the approved SOV pattern, and were likely depot-level builds, but all good examples follow a set pattern. The OP's rifle is nothing like a real one though, if you know what to look for. Unfortunately.

That said, it is a pretty good reproduction and if he gets the scope fixed, it will make a jim-dandy historically representative shooter. It's sad that whoever made it up faked a bunch of markings to deceive, it was worth decent money without the fakery.
