Hi guys,
Im new to gun nuts and this is my first post so be kind:) If this is in the wrong place then please direct me to where I need to be.

I have a Mosin Nagant (7.62x54R) and a Tokarev (7.62x25) on the way. The problem I am having is that I cant find any STEEL FREE ammo locally or mail order. Until the weather clears up and I can get to an outdoor range then Phoenix gun range in Edmonton is the only range I know locally that will allow me to fire a rifle and a pistol using my own ammo. They test the ammo you bring with a magnet so both the bullet and the case must be steel free. Im looking for a dependable source of ammo I can mail order or a local gun shop in and around Edmonton where I can get ammo. I would like the ammo at a good price and if possible to buy both from the same shop or site to save on high postage costs of heavy ammo.

Am I asking the impossible? I have looked extensively online for this.

Alternatively is there a local gun range I can join which will allow steel? I called Things Military in Calgary, they have the desired ammo but don't do mail order. Phoenix, Mil Arms , Canadian tire and Cabelas don't have any of the steel free.

Thanks for your help!

Oh cool, good to know it's lead core, but yeah I just fished out a round of MFS and checked the bullet with a magnet, looks like the jacket is steel.

Things Military has stopped shipping ammo, and they have a bunch in shop. Lots of surplus and prvi partizan stuff. Worth stopping by if you are in town, but do ensure you are up on your prices. Some of what they have is well priced, some is cheaper elsewhere.

And if ammo there is anything but 223, and it says non-corrosive, it is corrosive.

Welcome aboard! I think I seen some S&B ammo for the Mosins at the last gun show I was at. I'm not positive but I think its steel free.

My experience with S&B has been that they have steel jackets but it might not all be the same. I know that prvi is all copper though.

If you live by a Wholsale Sports go there today for 7,62x54. It is the last day of their scratch and save sale, so $289 and then a minimum of 10-50% off at the till for 800 round crate.

OP - look for Prvi Partizan, it's a blue and white box, usually very good quality and steel free, BUT you will not find it at "Surplus" prices - it'll be $20ish a box, as always - keep your brass.
