I have an M10 sporter that doesn't seem to match photos I found in my searching.
The barrel is 26", and the serial is 175XX. I was told that the grip / forend caps and diamonds are ivory.

Could anyone help in identifying exactly what I have?
Also I am curious to know what is it worth.

thanks in advance

It certainly appears to be a .280 M10. I've never seen one with that ivory on the stock.
You can tell it's a .280 by the plate where the Porter pop up peep sight can go on the bridge.

I could guess on value but I'd prefer not to. Someone will no doubt give you a figure that is more than anyone will pay for it.

more photos of my Ross M10

Is there any possibility that this was a custom sporter from the factory?

I have taken a few more photos. That's the best my little point and shoot can do.

Looks like an M10 that was modified later in life. The forend does not look like a factory job due to the short length and poor checkering(over runs and uneven diamonds). There are a lot of Ross guys on here who can give you a better idea.

It is a reworked M10. The rework will have no effect on its usefullness, but will certainly affect its value.

Re-work or not I'd be proud to pull that rifle out in any group of hunters. Thats a fine looking rifle sir.
While I try to not alter ( note the wording; alter, not ruin or de-value ) milsurp rifles, sometimes you see a nicely re-worked unit. I say enjoy it for what it is, a fine rifle.
I've seen pictures of Canadian Snipers in WW1 with Ross rifles that have had the stocks shortened. The snipers seemed to be of the mind that this improved the accuracy of the Ross. The book was " Out of Nowhere " & (never / ever lend out books, just give them away, that way you don't expect them back) no I don't still have it to quote from.
If it was good enough for them then I'd say use it and be proud of it.

Whoever modified the forend...should have stuck to whatever else it is he does/did.
The checkering is very rough.

There should be a band around the barrel that a swivel or loop screws up into, no sign of it.

Too bad, the ivory might have been a nice touch in a master's hands.

Here's what the forend should look like.

Have you had the action out of the stock? I am a bit curious about what looks like notches into the forestock at the rear open sight. and what they might have been put there for.
