I need some help figuring out what I have, I got a couple hundred odd cast bullets in with a deal. They weigh 275 grains and are sized .420-.422 hard cast with no lube grooves and almost like an old field point pellet nose profile. I can't for the life of me figure out what cartridge or firearm they would be used for, any help would be appreciated thanks.

Purely a guess, but without lube grooves, that would suggest they might have been meant to be paper patched - so add a number of thou thickness for appropriate cartridges??

There's a few mold makers doing designs for powder coating that have no grooves. That adds less than 5thou usually though. Not enough to get to standard size 44 bullets.
Rifle bullets one would usually paper patch are generally heavier than that but it's the best possibility I think.

Cores for swaging home made jacketed bullets maybe but those are almost always as soft as possible.

Sabot bullets is a good lead but one would expect sabots to bee made for standard diameter bullets of .430". I don't have much experience with those though.
