Hi,

Can anyone help identify this rifle? All I know is that it's been in the family longer than I have... and no one's ever fired it...

Can anyone identify the model? What would the most likely chambering be?

Thanks

Your 1893 Marlin in 25-36 was one in a series of cartridges Marlin brought out to compete with the very succesful Winchesters, in this case the 25/35.

Definately as the others have said marlin 1893, definately a lever gun ;) . But most of all it looks all complete, and original as near as I can tell from pictures anyways. Very nice.

I had a 38-55 marlin 1893, also marked special smokeless powder, octagon barrel. And it dated 1898. It would be interesting to know the manufacture date on your gun, going by the serial number.

Don't hang it on a wall. Get some dies and brass and shoot that great looking old lever gun. I would :D

Like a few others have said, definitely a Marlin 1893. You can look up the year of manufacture here:

Mine's a half-mag 38-55 made in early 1893 (I know it's early because it's not marked as a model 1893, there's no 1893 patent date, and the barrel isn't marked "Black Powder Only" or "Special Smokeless Steel").

if you just want to shoot it a little, and dont want to buy dies and all that stuff, factory 25 - 35 WW will work through it. so long as the gun is in good shape
