hello all, my name is jake and i like to collect old military items like the one pictured here.
this is my first post so i might aswell make it a good one, i have this un-fired projectile that im trying to identify....it was not fired but pulled from its case, the copper driving band has no rifling on it.
also it measures around 11/16 of an inch or 18 mm but the copper band makes it 20 mm. it has letters and numbers on the side of it (Y.A. 117)
i have a suspicion though, the brass tip screws off and the inside of the tip is threaded (detonater maybe?)
with a hollow cavity for explosives or something.
as found

tip screwed off

all cleaned up
yes my hand is very big, lol my index finger is as long as this shell

with the tip off

i dont have a copy of cartridges of the world or ordnance manuals on this type of shell so any info would be awesome.
looking on google didnt get very many results for me so maybe the experts on bullets could help me here.
im also gona post this in the ammo section so the guys there can take a crack at it.
