It a late model Russian, what they call the letter series because of the serial number.

No it isn't. A "Letter" series SKS would have an additional letter after the numbers in the serial number and a Star a little further back on the side of the receiver.. This is simply a 2 digit serial Russian SKS. We would need to see more to ascertain year. As it is a honey colored laminate it is a refurbished SKS. It could be any year. Again more pics would be needed to ascertain a date. But going by the rear sight base it is likely a refurb 49-52.

Is this one of those moments like when your car was broken into and the thieves left your U2 and Hootie and the Blowfish CDs but took all the good ones?

Yeah you don't even need a U2 cd anymore, just listen to a light rock station and you'll hear it 3 times a day

Early Russian. The step at the top of the receiver round, places it between1949-52. Late 1952 and onward had rounded receiver fore end.

But, IIRC, this particular cyrillic serial prefix puts it likely in 1951 or 1952.

Refurbed. With replacement laminate stock.

your right. serves me right for late night posting. corrected my comment

Actually, I think the cyrillic prefix is also possible 1950 production (as well as 1951 or 52).

Chrome bore, photos of the trigger housing and bayonet lug would further narrow or pin down the possible year of manufacture.
