From the font and names, I'd suggest Ross rifles pre WW1. But I could be completely wrong. (Detachable bayonets are later in the 19th century than most people think.)

The length of the box should be a clue about the rifles it held.

Seems to long for Enfield No.1 MKIII or to short for Snider-Enfields, so my guess is for Ross rifles.

Its about 54" length inside the box. My guess was also ross rifles.

The part where the rope handle connects looks the same with the wood on an angle but those crates are quite a bit deeper. It looks like it has the same reinforced metal corners as well. Too bad it doesn't show any font on the side, cool picture though.
