My father-inlaw has these two blackpowder rifles and we are looking for some help to identify what they are. Only info I have is he got them from a friend who worked in Saudi Arabia.

Ditto on Jezial (spelling in English of Arabic words is always problematic).

The locks may have markings that suggest origins, but other than a Continental European lock manufacture, the rest will be handmade or re-made from salvage parts. Every one will be unique and there is no way of knowing which tribal gunsmith made them or when. The funny thing is their may be cultural significance to these old guns amongst certain old Saudis. (Ask the Embassy, you might be surprised.)

Saudi Arabia is a big place. It is also full of disparate people with tribal loyalties first to the King in Riyadh, then locally to their particular sheiks. The people in the south near Yeman and Oman are different in culture, tradition and physical appearance than those in the north near to Jordan. For example, some of their women only wear a small facial mask with beads, not a full face veil, like frequently encountered by "observant" Muslims.

The geography is likewise varied. There are banana plantations near the Red Sea and large agricultural regions in the north, while in the east the sand dunes are as exciting as it gets. If you know more about the areas where the "importer" worked, you'll be able to understand their provenance better. Fascinating country with a history beyond most peoples' comprehension.
