Hello CGN,
I bought a brand new in box Weatherby vanguard the other day.
I thought it was a good looking rifle for the price when I saw it and bought it on impulse.
I started to look for retailers selling the same rifle but cannot find any with the exact same model.
The box it came in called it the "Rifle of the year" (ROY). It has a rubberized synthetic stock with a tan desert type camo pattern. It's .233 cal. blued finish.
I found this old product announcement that mentions my rifle as a custom based on the 2006 vanguard with upgraded features.
Anyone have an opinion on this rifle?
What would have be a fair retail price for it?
I see that the regular vanguards are about $550 or so for basic synthetic. But this one seems to have come from the custom shop or something.
Thanks for reading or skimming such a long post.
Even more thanks if you can give me some info.
Roscoe

Weatherby's 'Rifle of the Year' Can Be Tailored to Specific Hunting Area
Based on the popular Vanguard®, Weatherby's 2006 "Rifle of the Year" gives dealers the opportunity to offer customers a special firearm tailored to their particular area or type of hunting.
The Rifle of the Year features an injection-molded synthetic stock with exclusive Silentek coating which can reduce sound up to 20 percent and increase the ability to grip the rifle in even the wettest hunting conditions.
"For our 2006 Rifle of the Year, we took our best-selling Vanguard model, upgraded features on the stock and provided four color options so our dealers can have a special make-up rifle that fits with their particular area and customers," said Brad Ruddell, Weatherby's vice president of sales and marketing.
The Rifle of the Year is available in the following stock colors:
* Black with grey spiderwebbing-Weatherby's most popular color combination
* Black with red spiderwebbing, for the varmint hunter who wants a custom look
* Tan with black spiderwebbing, a color combination suited for Western hunting
* Alpine green with black spiderwebbing, designed for hardwood and mesquite hunting environments
The Silentek coating helps dampen sounds such as scratching when the stock rubs against tree limbs or brush, or knocks when the stock makes contact with a solid object (e.g. binoculars). Weatherby's famous Monte Carlo stock design allows quick eye-to-scope alignment and faster target acquisition.

Other features include a 24-inch, #2 contour cold hammer forged 4140 steel barrel. All metalwork is matte blue.
The trigger can be precisely adjusted for let-off weight to match individual preferences (within factory pre-set minimums). Sear engagement adjustments must be performed by a Weatherby Service Center or qualified gunsmith.
The Vanguard action incorporates many of the strength and safety features of Weatherby's renowned Mark V® action including:
* A one-piece forged, fluted bolt body with three ports that allow high pressure gases to escape in the event of an accidental case rupture. The bolt sleeve completely enshrouds the rear of the action to provide protection from high-pressure gases and brass particles, should the case rupture.
* A one-piece forged and machined receiver with integral recoil lug is designed for exceptional strength and structural integrity.
* An easy-to-see cocking indicator provides an extra measure of safety.
The Rifle of the Year is available in .223 Remington
