Hi I bought a Chinese SKS lately and just got my Tapco stock. I'm trying to remove the wooden stock and the gas tube cover but I just cant. In the process I am scratching and breaking the wood and swearing more and more.

I read that to remove the receiver you have to remove all components and then just pull out the receiver. Mine wont move at all. Do I have to remove the big black screw?

Also Im trying to remove the gas tube cover. The small pin that retains everything wont budge. I tried to hammer it out on both sides, Im actually damaging the pin instead of pushing it.

I really need some help, the SKS stripping thread did not help much.

there is a ton of video available online to show you how to do what you're trying, that being said, ensure that you've stripped the sks down to just the barrel in the stock, you HAVE to remove the trigger group before it will come out of the wood. also you might need to move the whole barrel/receiver "up" towards the muzzle end in order to remove it from the stock. they can be stiff, but it'll come out.
as for the pin that you're working on, they do come out, one side has a larger head than the other, make sure you're trying to remove it by striking on the smaller side, thus pushing the large end out. with 2 of mine i had to drill the pin out. it can be done with a good bit and a drill press. both of mine were too hard to press/punch out so i resorted to the drill. worked like a charm.

The Chinese military HG ferrule pins are tough to get out. As T&G pointed out, make sure you are drifitng it out from the small end, pushing the large end out. To get the stock free, make sure the trigger group is removed and the bayonet is unfolded, then hold the rifle by the handguard, turn it upside down and tap the top of the buttstock on something that wont damage it. I use my hip, but anything padded will work. They are a tight fit.

I managed to get the receiver out by taping it with a tool. Now the damn pin.

I figured which side is which so Im punching it but it just wont work, Im damaging the pin instead. Ill put it in very hot water for a few minutes, see if it can help.

Edit: Nope soaking the piece in hot water did not do anything. I proceeded to try to drill the pin out but I might have damaged the piece by doing that

Depending on how much you cut into the pin channel, you might be able to use a roll pin, available at any hardware store. i used one in each of mine although i didn't damage the pin channel when i drilled mine. the roll pins are available in different sizes and might work to hold it in place. i haven't heard of many who were able to use the original pin with the new cover.

Finally got the sucker out after a few threats and drilling it. Now I installed everything back on but the gas tube latch wont close.

Try pressing it down with a flat head screw driver. If that doesnt work you may have to file a bit for it to fit. I find tapco stuff always comes with a little too much material just so you can shave it and get the right fit if need be.

Took some filing on the plastic cover but its all good now, lets just hope it wont blow in my face when i fire it lol
