Anyone have any suggestions?
The ATV mounts are designed to mount to a rack or a bar of some sort.
I have an 89 Arctic Cat Cheetah touring and want to mount a rifle case and still have room for a passenger.
There is a bumper, front and back and a little "truck bed" in the back.

Would love to see some pics of what others may have done.

My dad mounted one on his Skandic. He had to fabricate a mounting bracket for his Kolpin Gun Boot, but once it is bolted in place (through factory holes in Kolpin) it totally kicks ass. Very sturdy, more than any factory gun holder I've seen. I'll try and get some pics for you if you can hold on through the weekend.

I love these little projects...

If it had a back rest and handles would be a piece of cake to fabricate something...

Can you post a pic of the rear of your sled??

it does have a seat back like that, maybe this won't be as challenging, but I still can't wrap my head around it. Still want both seats usable and don't want to restrict the agility of the sled with hills, ditches etc. either.

my uncle has an identical 88 cept he has the fold down rack.My 92 has the same rack.
I built a brace for the bottom of my Kolpin that bolts to the trim strip in front(it's mounted with 5/16 bolts)and at the rear I drilled a hole in the side plate of the rack and used a 3" spacer to keep things square.
the nose of the case rests on the footboard right behind where your passengers foot would sit then the case angles up to the rear.I run a bungy cord from the handle to the other side of the rack to keep things from bouncin around.
real simple and totally secure.

So, what about a mount like this on this piece? Then your regular Kolpin mount will bolt right on to it...

I did a similar thing to mount mine onto a Honda CT110 bike. The Kolpin gunboot is the way to go. Any metalworker can fab up a bracket for you in minutes. I would agree and try to get it mounted behind you and the passenger if possible.

Here are some pics of what my father did for his machine. Like I said, rock solid. Not in the way at all either. He basically drew up the plans, bought the metal at a local shop, took the metal to a shop to get it bent, and did the drilling and install himself.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Northman! I love it! I may use that idea or try one of the mounts on the seat back.

You know, if you really wanted to do it on the cheap, you could just bolt a 12" piece of pressure treated 4x4 onto that box at the back, then screw your mount onto it...:)

Not too worried about the cost, just want it to work right and not damage the rifle or the sled. Nothing is made specifically for snowmobiles, they are ATV specific.

If you do mount something on that box, be sure to use a good backing plate to prevent the bolts from pulling through...

A 4x4 wouldn't look too good on there anyway...:p

won't need a backer on the cargo box, just use washers.I've been toting an iron around on mine for years and nothing has pulled thru.
this is how mine mounts.

the trim strip circled in red is held on by bolts.the yellow dot is about where the front one is.the yellow dot at the back is where I drilled a hole. The orange outline is where the case sits.out of the way but handy.
My kolpin has holes molded into the botton edge of the case.I used a piece of 1/4"x1" flat iron and bolted it on then drilled holes and mounted it with spacers.(you could skip that step and just use the spacers)
I made spacers from small diameter pipe and replaced the front bolt with a longer one and mounted the back to the rack.because I always have a chain saw on the other side of the cargo rack I put a bungy across from the handle to the other side.
I'd take a picture but we don't have any snow yet and the case is still on my quad...
