Help please, I'm reinstalling my Norc rear sight assembly using this site:

www.surplusrifle.com/garand/rsdisassembly/index.asp

It says to bottom out the aperture and insert the elevation shaft with the dial at the 200 yard mark. I know the Norcs are in meters but I cant get it to index correctly for 200, it's either 100m or just under 300m. Are the metric sights to be zeroed at 100 meters? As there is a graduation for 100m that would make sense to me. I've done the forum search with no luck.

Thanks in advance.

I've always used this this site when working with the rear sights on my M14s:
http://www.civilianmarksmanship.com/striphtml/detailstripsightone.html

It details the M1 Garand but the sights are almost identical to the M14. A lot of us here have replaced the Norc rear sight with the M1 Garand sight. PM me and I might be able to help out in that regard.

I prefer the rear sight measured in yards for obvious reasons. Who knows why, I still think of farhenhite instead of celsius when it comes to temp.:p

Hope this helps

The CMP website says to reinstall the elevation pinion such that the line below the one marked with a '2' on the elevation knob lines up with the index mark on the receiver when bottomed out.

It actually isn't that big of a deal because you can loosen the elevation knob screw to rotate the knob without rotating the pinon to wherever you want it. The idea is to allow you to sight in the rifle at a known distance, line up the knob to the correct marking, and dial in the correct elevation for other ranges.

Thanks for your help, I'm right on track then. I wasn't aware the elevation knob could be loosened from the pinion shaft to dial it in perfectly after the sight in. Going to the range early next week to break in the barrel and sight it in.

Cheers!
