Hi,just was wondering in 1995 I bought a Bolt action rifle in 30-06 caliber..Later I found that it was a Mauser 98. I will give all the info I have and wondered if anyone knew about this gun maker. If it is a common gun? I have been to a few gun shows and have not seen one..

On the right side of the barrel a 30' 2.49" 15 tons
On the left side 73410 made in england
On the top of the barrel churchill gunmakers ltd 32 orange street.london wc2 england

The sporterized stock has the 73410 and the bolt has 410.,also small picture of a crown on the bolt ball? Maybee a C with a crown on it?

I am considering buying a new stock or refinishing the old one? I have seen some nice walnut stocks for sale.Would these be easy to install?

Would this be considered a large ring Mauser?
How old might this gun be?
Also considering a removable magazine for ease of loading and unloading..
I have hunted deer with it for more than 10 years...

I really think you should leave it alone, there would be plenty of CGNers that would want to beat you if you changed things. If nothing else, keep the stock in original shape. A Churchill sporter 98 is worth some money, not necessarily a ton, but they are no dime-a-dozen guns. Simply put, Churchill, BSA, Holland & Holland, Cogswell & Harrison, and many others took 98 Mausers after WWII and made English-style sporting rifles out of them. Many were fitted with multi-leaf express sights, some had peep sights, some had very nice stocks with excellent checkering and ebony forend caps. They run the gamut from simple sporterized military guns with original barrels, right up to works of art. The info you gave from the right side of the barrel is simply the load info given from the proof house when this gun was proof tested in England, as all guns were (and are). I can't tell what 'donor' rifle this was, as all the info you've given is from the barrel. You won't likely have a crest stamped on the top of the front receiver ring, as all the military rifles had, but you can strongly assume that this action was made in Germany. It would also most likely be a large ring Mauser. Fitting a new stock to this could be extremely easy, or downright difficult, depending upon your desire. There are synthetic stocks that are available that the metal will drop right into (more or less), and there are stocks that are partially finished that require quite a bit - your choice. But please, don't wreck the original stock, unless it is toast.

Yes my gun has multi leaf express rear sight. Thank You for the info, the original shock just has the finish wearing off..On the recoil pad it looks like the Ruger symbol?
