Help me choose a dot for my G34?

None of those because you'll probably regret purchasing any of them.

I know it's not the response you want, but I can't provide any other in good conscience. I had to learn my lesson the hard way. Red dots are something you want to spend a little more money on. Don't get me wrong, a company like Vortex has great customer service. They stand behind their product, but a red dot isn't any good if it's always being serviced, even under warranty.

Is your G34 the MOS version? most dots with an MOS adapter plate will require taller sights if you still wish to have functional irons.

If you are on the fence, you should get something that:
1) can assist training you on dot usage, and
2) will be re-salable if you decide to ditch it (you won't), and
3) will continue to rock if you decide to stick with it. (you will).

Something like the Holosun 507 with the ACSS vulcan reticle is perfect.

Dots are awesome. They can definitely help you shoot faster. I adapted to them quite easily because 1) I shoot with both eyes open and 2) Unless I was looking to be uber-accurate, I'm always focused on the target, not the dot/sight. As for dot size, it's personal preference, but I really like somewhere around 6 MOA on a pistol. One thing you should be aware of is that if you have an astigmatism, like I do, then the dot with never have crisp edges. You'll get a starburst/blown-out effect, but I find it easy to ignore since the primary focus is the target.

the vortex and Osight S are RMSc footprint, I'm fairly sure the Osight X is the only one that will bolt up to the MOS plates you already have because it has the RMR footprint.

This may be, but i believe that my mount plates are the adapters for rmr to another pattern.
The MOS cut on the slide is a unique footprint, Optic plate 02 accepts RMR footprint dots. https://us.glock.com/en/learn/glock-pistols/mos

Generally any of the slimline dots will have slimline footprints and your full-size pistol will come with full-size adapter plates that fit full size dots.

"Carry" and "CCW" generally mean slimline which will require an aftermarket adapter plate to fit your full size pistol.

Of the 3 mentioned I would go with the Vortex, the Olight offerings may be ok but I have no personal experience with them.
Don’t listen to those with no ownership experience who slam Vortex with the same old “ it may have a lifetime warranty but what good is it if it’s always getting repaired “ crap.
I own 6 Vortex Venoms, every single one has thousands upon thousands of rounds thru them, not one problem over many years of ownership. I do have friends who have dealt with Vortex on warranty and they are stellar to deal with if you have to 🤷‍♂️

I may been under a false understanding about that. I was not aware that my choice of the dots was handcuffed. I need to learn more.

I don't see them on vortex's website anymore, but the Venoms (and Vipers) have Docter footprints and will fit one of the adapter plates included with MOS full size Gen 4 pistols. The Vortex defender mentioned will require spending more on an adapter plate. Optics with non-user serviceable batteries like the Olights are disposable.

I personally would get a good used holosun 407c for under $300 and call it a day.

Thank you, in advance for the leupold, sig and aimpoint recommendations but my list is only 3:

Vortex defender ccw
Osight x
Osight s

Gen4 glock 34
You’re not a professional shooter. The osight s or x is the way to go.

There’s a osight on sale now. Just buy that If it fits your g34.

I’ve had the rmr. Go with 3 moa dot. The 6 takes up too much of the target.

Or... Don't listen to those who are pure fanboys and don't know what they're talking about 🤷‍♂️. You can tell edgy is a fanboy because all he saw was the negative in my comments!

OP, the choice is yours, but like I said, learn from my mistakes, pay more and get a better product.

Don't take the advice of people who have zero experience with a product, there are a lot of "brand fan boi's" when it comes to optics.
The O-Sights are fantastically built, we have a few VERY good shooters using them in competition and swear by them now (especially after having a battery tray fly out mid stage of a very expensive red dot). The holosuns are fantastic, I have a few of them and they are solid. I have a couple vortex venom, good optic but the window is a bit small. I also have a Swampfox Justice II and love it, as well as a Gideon Omega that is damn good for the money.
You don't have to have a trijicon to get a good red dot, there are quite a few out there that are excellent quality and good value.
If you are competition shooting or plinking, any of the above or others would work great
But if you are taking it to a war zone? I would get a trijicon, aimpoint, or Eotech....but I bet you are not heading to a war zone anytime soon ;)

The defender is a great dot. We have a couple pistols with them on.

Please check out swampfox red dots at rdsc as they are one of my top choices.

Another one to check out that is in your price point is the Primary Arms GLx RS-15 with the Vulcan ACSS reticle.
If you are learning the red dot on your pistol and do dynamic shooting, run and gun and the like, especially doing strong hand and weak hand drills you will enjoy the ACSS over a simple dot.
I'd recommend watching some videos on the ACSS before taking the dive.
