Hey guys.

Been having many boners watching precision rifles.. over the internet google and cgn. This rifle would be #1 target shooting # 2 hunting(i dont know anything else other than 308 offered for the RPR)

But right now the ruger precision rifle caugh my eye.. I would like to ask some questions about it....

From what i ve read the RPR is good!!?????? whats your opinion on these. Can you tell me what is your caliber?

I like to customize my guns alot, what kind of mods can be done on a RPR? muzzle brakes? handguards? stocks? doesnt mean i want to completely change the rifle just in case an upgrade catch my attention
i like to have the possibility.

I gotta be honest ive been looking at barrett m98,cadex style rifle.. i like the way they look but when i look at the price... huuuhhhhhhhhh Can you guys suggest anything similar looking, right now the RPR might be the best suggestion for something similar AFAIK. if i could i would buy a 50bmg tomorow but LOL.

I really dont know much about bolt action rifles.. im more into ar15,vz58, handguns and such.

My RPR in 308 was a great shooter but it is heavy once kitted with a scope and bipod. I don't think it would have made a good hunting rifle.

Lots of good stuff on the EE these days. There is a Tikka CTR for $1,250 which I would say is pretty good.

These days I would do Tikka over Remington, Savage, etc.

You will like the RPR Lots or most of the AR10/15 aftermarket stuff fits on it from what I understand. But I havent started outfitting mine yet just the basics right now.

The 1600 Yard Challenge that Ruger is running for the RPR, is a fantastic marketing play, it even makes me want one, and I'm not a fan of AR-15 pistol grips on a bolt gun, but I get the argument. If the RPR is the style of rifle that grabs your imagination, go for it. The RPR will be a fraction of the cost of a similarly equipped Accuracy International AT308, or even an AICS chassised 700 Remington. Given the RPR's heavy sporter contour with a .75" muzzle diameter, as opposed to a varmint contour of .80" or greater, at 10 pounds for the .308 version, the rifle should be light enough for field use, if you decided to go that route.

You just missed out on the Savage 10TR with 20" and 24" barrels for sale from SFRC on Wednesday. Literally best bang for a buck out there. As with many modern rifles, this rifle shoots sub MOA right of the box if you do your part.

im not in a rush.. I will only take ONE bolt action rifle. im a semi automatic shooter :) and automatic when i make a trip to the U.S :) :) :)

Need to practice long range with some good stuff...

The RPR is the top choice for now..

But can any one chime in about rifle chassis!!!???? i dont know much about these.. but from what i understand some companies make nice chassis for popular bolt action rifles????

what is the coolest stuff we can get in terms of chassis?

The bigger question is how much do you want to spend and how accurate is accurate enough for you? Do you reload? I love rugers, but if I'm trying to shoot tiny groups, ruger doesn't really catch my attention. I would be looking for a savage model 10 hs precision if you're on a budget. If you have a bit of money to spend, there are other options. But a model 10 will do you good and when you start shooting groups consistently, you can upgrade your trigger and spin on a nice bartlien or benchmark barrel. But, like I said before, if you have a bigger budget, there's a lot of options. The tikka's are nice, I just don't like the stocks they come with. Just my opinion, ymmv

got budget.. i could afford a 10 000$ rifle but ....................... its a little bit too much for the use ill do with it.

5000$ would be better. i only want ONE bolt action rifle.
Accuracy : i dont think ill be shoot further than 600 yards with it. if i can it a target constantly would be good.
Yes im reloading only pistol cartridge right now but eventually i know i will reload rifle cartridges. reloading isnt a problem.

I would highly recommend a 6.5 caliber rifle, if the budget is 5000 not including optics, look at a used pgw or AI. Or you could have a talk with a good gunsmith, and have something built exactly like you want on a custom action. if it's $5000 total, get a custom built on a trued up rem 700 action or a savage. If you like chassis, the Eliseo, cadex and mdt are all good. If you want a traditional stock, manners, hs precision and star shooter make a nice stock. There are many others. I would check out as many as you can and find something that fits you, I like a pistol grip. I also really like the 6.5x47 lapua, it's really easy to shoot and it has some pretty wide nodes when reloading. It is however pretty expensive if you don't reload. The options are endless if you get a custom. How about optics? Your scope is more important than your gun. On the other hand, I started with a savage 10 hs precision with a worn out McLennan barrel that I paid $600 for and mounted a sightron 10-50x60 s3 that I paid $800 for and it would shoot .3 inch 5 shot groups 6 out of ten times, but it would send a flyer here and there due to the missing throat. Lol.

If you have 5k to throw around, I'd spend at least 1/2 of it on a scope. That's what's gonna stay with you for years - whereas is sounds like you change guns and parts like gotch.....and so do most of us!!!

For 2500-3000 you'll be able to get a Bushnell ERS/XRS, NF NXS, maybe even a NF ATACR or S&B if you find a motivated seller. With you're budget I'd skip right past the vortex PST's and sightrons. They are very good, but then you'll always wonder "what's the next level?"

Hit the EE, and if you're patient you'll be able to find something good and cool - IN THAT ORDER!!! 600 yards is so small feat, so go for quality over coolness. A infrared laser designator will not help you ring a gong at 600.

A Ruger RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor followed me home the other day. Gonna take her out today and get the scope on paper, then start going long.

Got the dies on order, just need to start finding bullets and I'm set for reloading to really make her sing!

(E)

ok so i went on chou brothers websites.. and i found out they make nice barrels and offer cerakote.

What else they can do for me??? if i dont buy the RPR i was planning to buy a nice chassis and build a rifle from that.

They use bartlein barrels and will build you whatever you want. They're Probly one of the best shops in North America. A ruger rpr isn't even close to being in the same league. Give them a call and they can help you decide what you want. Defiance, Borden, panda and Bernard are good actions. The chous have a good supply of bartlein barrels. I have a bartlein and a McLennan on my guns. They will do your barrel work, trigger work, and do some top notch bedding. Look in their "what's new" section and you'll see some of their builds and see some of the work they do.
