Hello folks,

I'm facing a tough decision. I'm torn apart between two semi-auto models of AR10 by DD and POF. Both are exceptionally well made by USA reputable companies.
Honestly, if I could, I would take both. But... I must walk away with just one...

Daniel Defense DD5V2: 7.62 NATO, direct impingement, 18" barrel, 15" Rail KEYMOD, 1:8 twist, 2.5 lb trigger, Daniel Defense buttstock & pistol grip, 8.6 lbs weight, $2,800

Patriot Ordnance Factory P308: 7.62 NATO, short-stroke gas piston, 20” fluted barrel, 11.5" Modular Rail MLOK, 1:10 twist, 4.5 lb trigger, Magpul buttstock & pistol grip. 8.9 lbs weight, $2,400

Neither comes with factory iron sights. Both feature ambidextrous bolt release, ambidextrous safety selector.

So, which one should I pick?

Because Stag 10 isn't a true AR10 platform. It is similar to an AR10, but importantly not compatible.

Is there even such a thing as a "true AR10 platform"? Weren't only 10,000 made? Aren't all "AR10s" sold today just derivatives and variants of the original ArmaLite? Stag 10 not withstanding, isn't the "AR10" market literally filled with incompatible configurations and parts?

he said it...... I agree 100%
whatever floats the OP's boat but the dpms compatable Stag-10 is a no brainer and I wouldn't touch a restricted "AR-10 type" rifle given the current political anti handgun/semi-auto atmosphere emanating from the left.

There is nothing manufactured today that is compatible with the 'original' AR10's manufactured in the 50's/60's. About the only part that will fit both is the magazine, what today is called the SR25/DPMS pattern. All current AR10/AR308 offerings are really just AR15's scaled up where necessary to fit a .308win cartridge.

If you want more info on the subject I suggest the book by Collector Grade Publications: The Armalite AR-10 World's Finest Battle Rifle by Joseph Putnam Evans

Don’t the stags have cycling issues? Or is that just some builds ?
Where can I find this dons compatible stag 10?

There is a 23 page thread at the top of this forum filled with Stag 10 builds and I didn't see any mention of wide spread issues in it. The only issues with the Stag are issues shared by all AR10 builds AFAIK: no standard specification/parts incompatibility.

Complete rifles as well as receiver sets are available from Arms East. The upper/lower and take down pins are proprietary (making it non-restricted as long as your barrel is 18.6"+) and everything else is DPMS pattern.

Stag10S and spend the savings on ammo?

Neither the POF or DD uppers can take 3rd party handguards if you ever decide to change furniture.
