Hey everyone Merry xmas hope all had a good one,

I'm trying to decide between glock 19x and glock 17 gen 5. I have a glock 19 Canadian and im not crazy about it, my accuracy is not very good at more than 12 yards I have about 300 rounds through it and I find that its small for me and I cant get as good a grip as my M&P 9. I'm also not crazy about the FDE but I don't wanna wait for the glock 45.
any help is greatly appreciated

Anytime you shorten the site radius a pistol becomes harder to shoot accurately. Unless you have big mits chances are the shorter site radius of the 19 slide is causing you some accuracy issues. On a side note, 300 rounds is hardly enough to become proficient with a particular pistol. If you are not crazy about the FDE then I believe you have already made up your mind. If it helps, I cant shoot my glock 26 nearly as well as my glock 17.
 
further to the point about site radius, i wonder why so few people put the 34 in their consideration set...most threads these days are about 17 vs. 19 but imho the G34 should not be overlooked.

in answer to the original question, i have shot the 19 and 19x side by side and there was a noticeable difference in terms of ease of controlling the 19x with its bigger grip.
 
I'd look at other pistols besides Glock, there are many good choices that may suit you better and allow you to be more proficient with. If you like .45's give the tried and true 1911 a try, there are tons of choices there.
 
Yup I had a similar experience but with the 17. Just could not warm up to it so I sold it got a CZ75 sp-01 Shadow. Something just could not get happy with it. Tried all kinds of different loads. What would really pick me was give the gun to someone else and they would out shoot me with my own gun. Then one day I got the chance to shoot a glock 20. Yes. Now I can shoot. So now I have a g20 and a g40.
 
well I bought the 17 gen 5 today, just waiting for transfer to pick it up at my club... I have a 1911 and my cousin has a cz 75 01 I feel that those firearms are very easy to shoot, and they pad the confidence quite a bit. I shot my glock 19 and my m&p today, at 10 yards I don't have a problem but as soon as I put it out to 15 which is what I need to get better at before black badge, It shoots all over the place, but my m&p 9 is bang on. I truly believe its the small grip that has me flustered. As soon as I put the 17 in my hands it felt way better and I liked the no finger grooves as well. I also held a berretta and the sig not a fan at all.
Once cfo transfers the new one ill try that and then I may have two glocks to sell lol..

Congrats as they say if you can shoot a Glock you can shoot anything..

Since a pistol is a restricted gun the only place you are only allowed to shoot it is an approved range, so the site radius doesn't matter as much as it's length. It's easier to hit the target at short range.

But for sight radius, longer is better (until it gets too long to handle properly without a shoulder stock.)
 
It won't take long to see if its a good fit for you, hopefully after a mag or two you will get accustomed to the way it shoots.

lol i had to read that a couple of times but now i got it
 
well guys happy to report that I picked up my new glock 17 today and fired about 60 rounds down range and very happy with the results. It feels like a different animal in my hands, the grip I can get on this unit is much much better than the glock 19 Canadian and the accuracy was very good at 15 yards. im very happy with the purchase, guess I don't have to give up on glock after all.

Congrats I have had no issues with the grips on the 17 myself but added a slip on for comfort..
