Having trouble deciding - which Vortex scope should I put on my Savage .22LR bolt action?

Vortex Crossfire 4-16x50 AO Mil Dot Illuminated Reticle
Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 AO Dead-Hold BDC Reticle

It will be mainly used for gophers with some target shooting mixed in. Mainly in the 50-100 yard range with the occasional longer shot. Do I need the extra magnification? How much better is the Diamondback's glass?

4x-12x is plenty, unless you are looking for the maximum precision, and are going to use target loads. You don't need a 50mm objective either.

Having looked through a pile of scopes at Wholesale Sports a while back, the Diamondback 4-12 AO was a standout. 4-12 is perfect for what you want. You won't be sorry.

Thanks guys. Picked up the Diamondback 4-12x40 AO with BDC reticle. STOKED! Just waiting for my rifle to get drilled and tapped for bases.
