Hey guys and gals, I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I can't decide between the HP9-1 and the M305 for when Marstar's new shipment arrives.
I don't have enough cash for both so I can only afford to get one and modify it to my needs and wants this year.

-If I would get the M305, I'd mod her with an R33 op rod spring guide, USGI fiberglass stock, R33 cheeck rest, cut the barrel down and thread it myself, get a phanthom style flash hidder, make an SA style scout mount add some tan gunkote and a scope. I love the M305 for use as a moose hunting/range rifle but the mods would cost more than those for the HP9-1. However, I don't have a moose gun yet.

-As for the HP9-1: a side saddle, a Speedfeed pistol grip stock, a +1 extension, some type of lighting and some gunkote as well. I like the short shotgun for CQB(house gun)/competitions and it's also cheap to shoot and modify and looks mean as hell.

-Or try to get both by the end of summer and leave them bone stock and mod them as money permits?

I thought that I'd post this in the B&G rifles section since most people that own these guns are also fellow black rifle shooters (and not just shotgunners or battle rifle enthusiasts) and could give a more indepth approach.

I'd get the HP9-1 first myself.. I did. :p

Then again... I am wanting a M305 as well. I want to make a shorty (18.6").

I can tell you though, that the hp9-1 is a freak'n blast. :D (outta the box!)

Put a Hogue Overmolded 12"LOP stock set on it... and shot it a lot. :p

shown here with REM 870MM. The butt stock has a slip over shell carrier on it.

Hey Nine, since you own both a real 870 and an HP9-1, how do they compare in both fit and finish?
And I love the way your shotties look, very nice!
Did the Norinco stock feel that cheap that you had to replace it?

Get the M305 first. The time between new shipments seem to get longer and longer. Soon (I think) the source will have dried up when they run out of receivers.

The HP9-1 is a newer manufacture and should be around much longer.

Most if not all of the receivers coming in are already marked with a U.S. importer (CJA Michigan). General concensus is that they were made for the U.S. market and were shut out when the Norinco embargo came into effect. I think they are using up these receivers for the Canadian market. We are small enough that they won't forge anymore for us when these are done.

This are just my thoughts and opinions. Others will disagree or point out that their receivers aren't marked with a U.S. importer.

You are right - Norinco isn't making any more M14 receivers. The ones that aren't import marked are older, not newer.

Once they run out - that's it. But fear not - there are still some left from what I've been told. Also enough in Canada now that supply isn;t too big a problem. Just look at the EE forum!

the HP9-1 is a Remmy 870 copy in every way. In fact, the ones I've handled had better exterior receiver machining than real Expresses and were bead blasted and parkerized while the Remmys were less expensively sandblasted and parked - newer models are sand blasted and then coated with some kind of spray and bake finish, not even park.

That being said, the Norinco will have lower resale and the action bars need to be either polished or worked in.

I went with the Remmy cuz I got a good deal and like to drink kool-aid. But the Norc is a decent substitute and probably doesn't need refinishing.

I just want a 14" bbl and a nice M14.
I thought the HP9-1 was an 870P copy (could I be right on this one?) and not an express.
But I think I'll go with the M305/M14 first before they dry up.
Resale is not as important as I keep all that I have.

Get an M305 while you can. There is probably a finite supply of those as someone mentioned. Don't miss out on them.

yeah the Norc HP9 is alittle different then the express. Express has more cheaper and plastic parts then the 870P. My HP9 has been mostly good, but I have run into problems with part interchangeability with the Norc having larger diameter tubing sizes. I have more remington parts on the way..hope this solves the problem. I would get the HP9 as its more versatile and cheaper to run.
