I am in the process of deciding on a new shotgun. I have been liquidating my cheaper lower quality firearms. I want to have “fewer and better” guns; I am ready for a new shotgun but am really torn with what to get. Being an uncompromising lefty leaves me limited options. This will be a general purpose shotgun used for waterfowling, upland bird hunting and casual non competitive claybusting for practice and fun. I originally had wanted an over and under; my only real option (IMHO) is this:

Citori 625 Sporting Left-Hand

Description:

• Receiver – Steel; Silver nitride finish; High-relief engraving with gold Buck Mark embellishment
• Barrel – Ventilated top and side rib; Tapered floating top rib; Ported
• Action – Single selective trigger; Hammer ejectors; Top-tang barrel selector/safety
• Stock – Gloss oil finish; Grade III/IV walnut stock with close radius pistol grip; Left-hand palm swell; Schnabel forearm
• Features – Vector Pro lengthened forcing cones; Five New Diamond Grade extended Invector Plus™ choke tubes (F,IM,M,IC,SK); Triple Trigger™ System; HiViz® ProComp fiber-optic sight

I feel the 2/34” chambers might too limiting; especially for geese.

Thoughts?

Now I am really looking at a Benelli M2 Field in Black Synthetic or a MONTEFELTRO in Satin Walnut; both left handed autos!

(this is the Super Black Eagle but the M2 has the same black synthetic)

I am leaning towards the M2 as in an auto I think I like the black; both are nice.

Thoughts?

If I decide upon a Benelli I have to also choose between a 24, 26 or 28 inch barrel! I am really torn and looking for more knowledgeable shot-gunners to help me. I love the idea of a shorter barrel; more convenient simpler to handle; I just love short guns in general. BUT! I know many like a longer barrel claiming it tracks better.

Thoughts? (Considering it will be a multipurpose shotgun)

Thanks in advance.

Well you would never catch me with a 3K Browning 625 Sporting out waterfowling as cheaper guns better suited to the role that I don't mind getting dirty and beat up.

My semi of preferance is the Benelli and have owned two M1 S90's, one wood stocked and the other cammo synthetic, with 28" barrels. Both guns were excellent performance wise with whatever load I put through them from sporting to field. The M2 should serve the same but I have never shot one.

Had a 24" SBE that I should have kept but sold it to buy a Benelli Supersport. Since then I've replaced the 24" SBE with a 26" that I picked up used off the EE. Great guns .

For your do all gun my suggestion would be a hard look at the Benelli be it the M2 or the SBE if you feel the need for 3.5 inch shells. Once broken in the SBE ( mine anyway ) digests cheap target loads through to the 3.5" without a hicup.

Would likely be leaning toward a Benelli Cordoba but not sure they make them in a lefty.

That gun is beautiful but probably not your best choice. You have many options, just one of which is having your stock bent to your specs. The gun pictured is a target gun and is ported, you don't want that. Neither do your hunting buddies. I believe all the Citori's have the ability to switch the safety around. If you need a true amedixtorous gun look at the Remington 105. Being bottom load, bottom eject it should work out for you.

The Citori or the Benelli Cordoba wouldn't be my choice because both guns are ported and louder report of a ported gun is usually unwelcome in a duck blind.

But the Benelli M2 is a an excellent gun and is available in a left hand configuration. It also comes with shims to adjust the stock fit. If I were looking for a gun primarily for waterfowling it would be my first choice.

I like longer barrelled guns because they are smoother swinging and don't find the extra few inches a problem. But if possible go to a store and handle M2s of varying barrel lengths and pick the one that feels right in your hands. I think the 28" barrel balances best with the 24" too light but I prefer a shotgun with some weight forward. YMMV.
