both are .45 so moot pointI'd go with the P220 though, as I prefer decocker over manual safety. Install the SRT kit and good times had by all.
I love both equally
The p220 is a better duty gun because of the ease of dissassembly and decocker and double action.

The 1911 is a better target gun when you get one with a good trigger but a pain to dissasemble.

Second that. I've had three different Sig 1911s (SS Carry, Nitron, Nightmare) all beautiful....but I just don't shoot them as good as the P220s. I prefer the decocker, and prefer the way it fits my hand. I have a ss Elite, and an equinox P220, I shot the Equinox the most because of the fibre optic front sight, really makes a difference with 50+ year old eyes. Hard to beat the looks of the Equinox too (though I did put a set of Aluminum grips on it, the stock laminate was too slippery for me). Second from left bottom row.

It depends what you want and like. The Sig P220 is rock solid reliable and will last for many 1000's of rounds with the absolute minimum of fiddling. Easier to strip and clean and will overall need less cleaning and maintenance than any 1911. A 1911 is a 1911 and cool in its own right but it will typically take a few hundred rounds to break in and requires more maintenance and it is not as easy to strip and clean. Not a big deal but a bit more. I don't own a 220 but I do own its little brother the 226. I also own a 1911. Love them both. I find the 1911 is a bit more natural to shoot but both are very accurate if you do your part. I don't think you can really go wrong with either. It really comes down to personal preference. If you were only going to have one I would probably lean to the 220 but I do love the 1911.
thanks for the replies so far guys, i’m leaning toward the 220 as i have a norc 1911 currently & although its just back from Roger at Dark Intl i’ll be selling it after deciding on which of these to go with lol so i’m familiar with 1911’s & love them, hence why i can’t make up my mind lol
