Hey all,
I've got what I believe is a Cooey 600?
Does NOT have the tube/loader, but is a pure single shot, pull the pin back and fire. Has the signature Rabbit on the stock, barrel says "Hiawatha".
Can email pictures if necessary.
Any idea what the model is and who made it?

Thanks,

Cedarstrip

The HIAWATHA Brand Name was used by the Gambels stores. They contracted several companies, including Cooey, Savage, Stevens, High Standard, etc. to make inexpensive firearms for them.

I think you will find that the Hiawatha made by Cooey was the Model 39 Cooey, a shorter and lighter version of the Model 75. Cooey also made some Model 84 shotguns under the Hiawatha Brand name.

Hiawatha was made by Cooey for the MacLeods store chain. If it were an older single shot it would most likely be a model 39 or 75. But you say it has the rabbit embossed stock so it will be produced after Winchester took over in 1961. If it has the rabbit, I am betting that it is the model 750 which means it is 1967 to 1979. I don't know when MacLeods quit selling guns so you could maybe narrow the age down a little further. Does it say Winchester on the barrel anywhere, although it may not as it was made for a store chain.
Also, does the gun have a serial number. If it is the model 750 and there is a serial number, it will be 1968 or later as that is when serial numbers were required.
