Hello,

I just picked up a sporting rifle in .308 caliber. It says "Model 98" and nothing else anywhere else, except "three o eight" engraved on the magazine floor.

The bolt has two locking lugs in front and a safety lug that fits into a slot in the receiver. It has a large claw extractor and seems to be controlled round feed. It has an ejector on the left side in the receiver. The action cocks on closing. Bolt removal is a lever on the left, exactly like Swedish Mausers I have owned.

I have pictures (I'm trying to post them). I'm mainly interested in knowing who may have built this original action, but if anyone knows who sporterized it that would be a bonus.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your patience

How about this:

Should be 6 or 7 pictures there.

Was a Kar98k receiver at one point ? Hard to say as it looks like the "Mod 98" was re-punched after the receiver was polished. The rifle was probably later converted to 308 with a new barrel and marked as such on the floor plate ?

Is there a scope ring mount system on her ?

In any event, she looks like a real nice sporter for hunting and targeting shooting.

I have a PH that looks an awful like yours - We think it started as a BNZ k98 (in the right light you can almost make out the stamp in the receiver). Doesn't have the jeweled bolt or the knurling yours has tho.
