I’m looking at getting a new rifle in 7mm-08. I’m thinking either the Tikka T3X in laminate with stainless barrel or a Browning BLR. I understand they are different actions but both are on my must own list. Basically it’s going to fit the role of deer gun, with the chance of maybe bear/moose. Any thoughts?

Thanks

My wife has a Tikka in 7 08, I do not really like Tikkas so I would take the BLR, but if it is your only deer rifle there is a list of other bolt actions that I would choose.

I have to give my vote to Tikka. The BLR is a nice firearm but if I could only keep one it would be my Tikka.

I have browning xbolt synthetic blued in 7mm-08. The gun shoots way under a inch. It’s hard to customize xbolts. Not much aftermarket stuff. I like the tikka stocks better than the browning stocks.

I’d go BLR I think, such a nice rifle especially the model w/o the barrel band!! BLR would be my choice.

Tikka trigger > BLR trigger, and good luck finding someone to do a trigger job on a BLR. I'd go Tikka (have had experience with both).

Tikka, but you might want to consider the weight that a laminated stock will add to it. Why make it heavier than it needs to be? Recoil will be minimum.

Buy a SS Tikka and have it restocked in a Wildcat stock for a very nice lightweight pkg. Just sayin'. :)

x2 was a laminated fan for a while but it doesnt make any sense to add so much weight for looks

It’s a half pound difference between the T3x hunter (6.6lbs) and laminate ss (7.1lbs) The blr comes in at roughly the same as the T3x hunter (6.8 lbs). Will it be all that noticeable? I don’t plan on trekking for miles with it. Basically hunting from various ground blinds. Longest walk in is about a km.

You won't go wrong with both rifles, but I will choose Tikka. Better trigger pull, smooth bolt action, and more choices for after market parts include barrel.

I carry a T3 LSS in .270 for my deer hunts which sound similar to yours. Weight of the rifle has never been an issue for me and the laminated stock is durable and holds up in crappy weather. It's very accurate.
