Help me make brass for my 257WBY

Easier to do with new brass. 264 would be the smallest resize, but it's not the easiest to come by either. Probably the most common will be 7 Rem Mag, make sure you get some Imperial Resizing Die Wax (or whatever they are calling it now days), makes the job go much smoother. If you don't have forming dies, neck the 7mm down to 6.5/264 first, then from that down to 25. You'll have to set the shoulder back to fit the Wby chamber. Trim to length, if required, then measure the neck thickness and diameter, inside and out. If that's ok, you're ready to load, if it isn't, you'll have to turn or ream as required. Load with a starting 257 load and fireform, then check how it all turns out. - dan

7mm RM is easy to find and works in 1 step. just run through full length sizer and fire form. brass ends up around .015 shorter than weatherby brass but has no effect on velocity or accuracy.

i used new winchester brass. did 100 with no crached necks. only needed to trim to square the neck. after fire forming with cream of wheat the result was perfectly formed and functioning 257 wby.

I've bought some 264 brass from higginsons for this purpose. I ran it through the 264 die first then through the 257 die. It looks pretty much like the weatherby case.
You won't need to trim as they come out shorter than weatherby brass. I load lighter for the first firing to fireform.
The brass from higginson is glevlot headstamp and is noticibly heavier than weatherby brass. So load acordinly. I've got 4 firings on them now.

I haven't tried the sizing wax but i hear it makes things easier.

I take new 7mm Rem mag cases, lube them with Imperial sizing die wax and run them through a .257 Weatherby full length die. That's it. Hell, with the brand new cases being so undersized in the body they don't even touch at the base and I only lube the shoulder and neck. The cases come out of my die straighter than brand new Weatherby ones, but they are shorter. That's not all bad, it just means I'll never have to trim them, ever.

I tried this as well but ended up getting a bunch of little crimps around the case shoulder.
Maybe I need more (or less) sizing wax when I run the brass through the dies.
