Hi

I have been looking to get an accurate bolt action .22

I have narrowed it down to either a CZ 453 Varmint or a Anschutz 1416D HB Classic Beavertail.

Both are scope only, both 5 shot, both have the "classic american stock" look.

the CZ would be under $700, the other around $1000. Money is not the problem. I buy $2000 Swiss Lugers on a whim!

I would be using it for informal target shooting and groundhogs.

I have read that," You'll start with a CZ then in time, buy an Anschutz."

So your past experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you kind of want the Anschutz, then you might as well jump in with both feet, because, if your anything like me, you'll never be satisfied until you have it, and you'll of saved yourself a bunch of money in the long run, by not buying and selling guns along the way..

Buy both if money is not an issue. Keep Which ever one you like the best, sell the other one. Or keep both.

I never owned an Anschutz, but I have owned three CZ 452. I doubt any rifle is more accurate than the CZ. The limiting factor seems to be the quality of the ammo.

I also understand the Anschutz is good.

I would look at both and buy the one with the nicest wood.

I have a CZ 452 Varmint and it is very accurate and I would have no reservations recommending it. FWIW, I believe the CZ Varmint is over a pound heavier than the Anschutz. This may not mean anything on the bench but may be a factor when humping it around in the bush.....

I own several CZ's and several Anschutz's. I prefer the action on the CZ compared to the Match 64 on the Anschutz. The Match 54, on the other hand is a different story. I'd say you'd be pretty hard pressed to determine which of your 2 choices is more accurate without extensive testing.

If money is no object buy both guns. You won't regret it. They're both good. Then do a range report and a comparison and get back to us. :D

I just picked up an ordered CZ452 leftie yesterday. Fit and finish is excellent and if it shoots like my friends tell me then it will be around for a long time. The checkering is some of the nicest I have seen recently. Really looks like you cant lose no matter which way you go. Besides, whatever you buy there is someone waiting to buy it if you decide you dont like it.

Well said!

And for Stricker, if green is not an issue, you may want to have both because it will be a funny look for you to bring a target stock to hunt groung hogs:D.

This will shoot up there with the CZ and Annie sporters, and then some. Repro 52-B Sporting. Same scope in both pix- Weaver V-9-1 to be "period correct". Gun in pictures was the first Canuck to max the BDT...

They can be found on auction sites running around 700 bucks now...

The CZ is a decent rifle..... but...

This is like comparing a Porche to a Nissan Z350 or other sportscar in that league. Both do well however the one has a bit higher performance a much higher price tag, better fit/finish and bragging rights.

The price to performance ratio definately goes to the less expensive CZ rifle.

That being said I know which one would be in my gun safe:
"Anschutz 1416D HB Classic Beavertail" is the winner without question if the extra price isn't a factor.

Anschutz, Cooper, Kimber, Winchester 52, etc are on the higher end of the rimfire scale. If fit finish, percision and pride of ownership are factors for you then go for the Anschutz.

If you just want an accurate shooter and plan to shoot the crap out of it, take it everywhere etc, then go for the CZ.

I have both you will be better off with the Anschutz, as you will have to do the trigger on the CZ to get any real performance from it. I shoot competitively and the Anshutz shooters usuallly come back with the trophy's.

I was one of the lucky ones that got mine at SIR in 1995 when they were blowing them out for $399.99
