I'm totally stuck, I have now choices to buy either an AI AW or an AI AE

AIAW non folder 20" fluted non threaded, mono pod. rd count 800 for $3800 CAD (in Canada)

or

AIAE non folder 20" threaded with AI muzzle brake, rd count 700 for $3000 CAD (from the US after all said and done)

$800 saving if I go for AE but I always wanted an AW, but again $800 is a lot of money, and AE alread has a threaded barrel with muzzle brake.
another $400-500 to add a muzzle brake onto AW.

HELP MEEEEE, I will go with the the collective wisdom of my fellow gunnutz :)

If your spending that type of money get what you want, otherwise you will just end up regretting it. You say you want a AW then get the AW.

Agree whole heartedly. At $3000+, you are spending too much money to risk having any regrets. I know it's easy when it is not my money, but spend the extra and get the one you want.

Dude, if you have been offered an AW for 3800 buy it right now. I own an AW and that is a hell of a deal for even a well used one. 800 rounds down the pipe? Jesus Christ thats just broken in.

Buy it, down the road sell the 20" pipe and get a 26" threaded barrel if you have to have a brake on there. AW's are so heavy it won't make a difference on a .308

Cmon man, Arctic Warfare! bonded action! Double stack mags! Whoooo!!!:rockOn::rockOn::rockOn::rockOn:

why didn't I think of that, I forgot how easy it is to change the barrel on AW......

oh by the way, someone just offered me this for $9500, brand spanking new since it left the factory in 1996, even has a green barrel ffs. too rich for me thou......but boy isn't it magnificent to look at.

Yup, since that system uses a breaching ring to keep head space changing the barrel is super easy. All you need is the action wrench, a barrel vise and a 100ft pound torque wrench. I will be buying the action wrench this winter (I might lend it out).

Tac Pro's old video is great fro a demo of the AW series, barrel change starts at 7:20 (he puts barrel back on and it shoots into the same POI).

annnd that's why I always wanted an AW, no nonsense just simplicity. maybe we could have a "beer for wrench" trade lol if you are in Edmonton.

Dont mean to steal Familygunnutz thunder here but I spoke to the gentleman who has the full kit (super nice guy BTW). The question for you guys now is do I sell my 6.5 custom that I just built and have barely shot to get it? I kind of see the AI Kit like a Ferrari GTO, so rare, so beautiful drool....

Thoughts?

Well I don't think you would gain any accuracy over a custom 6.5mm. The AW is a legit 0.5moa rifle with the right ammunition, but its main benefit is utter reliability and the ability to take punishment with no ill effects. Basically it is a bomb proof tank you can bash around that will run in sand, mud, snow and never worry about.

The 90's one you mention does appear to have a 10X42 scope on it, 9K is alot of money for nostalgia and I doubt I would take the scope that is on it. Eight thousand would get you an new AIAT and a 5-25 S&B or equivalent scope.

after a bit of research, the kit is almost/is? identical the the Swedish PSG 90, which was provided by AI of course, if you are a collector, chances for you to getting one brand new down the road is pretty low, I could not shoot it if I were to buy it, too beautiful!! the painted barreled action is sooo feaking cool.

but I aggree with J thou, if you are a shooter not collector, you might want to bargain down the price or go without the 10x, I'd ditch the 10x just get the rifle, and get a 5-25. then agian there is AT and AX......lol I'm the worst at making decisions, hence the thread :)
