I'd like to keep it under $900, wood or laminate, stainless is a plus but not required.

I've found these that piqued my interest:

Savage 11 BTH or if I had to, the GCNS.
CZ 527 Varmint
Ruger M77 standard
Tikka t3 hunter just squeaks in under the $900 mark as well.

There is also a T/C venture in camo/blue I've found, it's about $600. Any thoughts on it? How's the plastic stock on these?

I think I prefer the CZ's looks, but haven't held any of these in my hands personally.

Can any owners of these rifles give me some advice?

I'm open to other recommendations as well, this is just what I've found so far.

I own a CZ527 because it does things a bunch of other guns dont. For one thing its a redesigned Minimauser action so the action is actually designed for the short case 22cf so is a lighter mech. I have 2 CZs-a 452 22lr and the 527
223 and they weigh the same. Nicely made rifles and typically tack drivers out of the box. Bedding, floating and a bit of trigger work make them very accurate.
No safe queens here-mine get out often and I was easily able to get both in leftie actions in a couple of days rather than months or years and for only a few bucks more. Love mine and will likely never sell either of them.

I can vouch for either a stainless Tikka or Ruger M77 MarkII as fine hunting rifles. You've picked all good rifles and its going to come down to a question of personal preference.

Thanks guys, I will be sure to handle as many as I can before making a decision. I appreciate the advice.

I have also found a Remington 700 VL SS thumbhole for under 900. It is a much heavier rifle however, and I'm not sure if I'd like it. So many decisions.

The CZ 527 is a nice little rifle, but it is a little rifle. It just felt a little strange to me how everything just felt downsized, but it did shoot well. I also liked the palmswell. The Tikka's fit me just about perfect. Their super light, very accurate and the magazine is a bit easier to load and unload then the CZ was. Of course the CZ had all metal parts, including the magazine where the Tikka has far more plastic. If that doesn't bother you then you have no worries. I bought one of the new Ruger Hawkeyes when they first came out. It really isn't much different then the old M77 and I would probably buy another Tikka before I bought another Ruger. I didn't get much time with it, even in .30-06 it kicked too much for me to be comfortable with it. Accuracy seemed ok but I just couldn't bring myself to get too attached to it. I've never owned a Savage centerfire yet.

If it were me I would happily choose either another CZ or Tikka. The question you need to ask is if you prefer a heavy barrel or a standard barrel. Each of the Tikka's I've owned shot great with just standard barrels.

What do you want it for? Do you want a detachable mag? I'm partial to Savage rifles as I've never had a bad shooter yet. The Model 10 Precision Carbine is nice as well as the Model 10 Predator Hunter Max 1. One has a 20" barrel and the other a 22" fluted barrel. Both are Accu Stock models and there is different camo on each as well. Both have detachable mags.

I've also seen some pictures of a mossberg mvp. It looks nice, I wonder how it will be.

The T3 Hunter would be a good shooter out of the box. No fuss, no muss and would be much easier to look at with the walnut stock.
