So I'm getting ready for another pistol. My choices so far are Glock 17, M&P9, and Ruger SR9. I'm having a hell of a hard time choosing. they are all great pistols. Each one of them has something that I like and I don't like. So far the Glock 17 is at the top with a tie between the M&P9 and SR9 right behind. I'm going to most likely never sell this pistol. Its the pistol that I want for a lond time.

The M&P pistol seems to be the best pistol overall, (from the reviews I have watched/read) but the thing that pulls me towards the Glock is the simple take down, and I also like the way it looks; simple and too the point as far a guns go!, but the price is not all to appealing. I know its not much but its still alot for me to put towards a hobby. So I want to make a good choice. Oh the the price for the Ruger SR9 is unbeatable. Alot of gun for that money.

Any thoughts would be great.

I would vote for the m&p. The ergonomics are great. Takedown is simple especially if you do it the easier of the two ways. I've never been a fan of the glock. Just didnt like how it felt it my hands. Never even held a SR9 so no insight there.

Forgot to add the price and value of a m&p carry kit can't be beat.

The Ruger is the smallest, if that matters to you.

The Glock has the most aftermarket (holsters, mags, etc.)

The Smith right now comes ready to go with 3 mags, holster, mag-pouches etc.

I had a Ruger Buckmark Camper and still have a Single Six, swore I would never sell the Camper and I didn't..I traded it for a really nice guitar and amp but the point is they are good guns. The Glocks are also good and if you think plastic is way to go which obviously is what a lot of LEO's and Military thought, the S&W tends to rust and they might be made by Walther in Germany....ooops sorry that was the .22LR version.

you might want to consider a Beretta PX4 Storm instead of a Glock, I have the PX4...works flawless everytime, so far 2000 rounds + = 0 jams, ergonomic grip....very confortable compare to a Glock, the Glock grip is not confortable at all !!! completely at the oposite of the PX4,

no I don't have the Glock, but yes I have shooted the Glock (100 rounds).

The PX4 is the one gun I won't sell, I love this gun, however....that will be my last and only one tupperware gun, I prefer a good metal gun, like my Beretta 92fs and my 1911 R1.

When I buy "toys" for long term ownership I don't get hung up on the fact it may initially cost a few bucks more than my "other choices".
If it fits, has a good track record, easy to find parts/accessories, and easy to maintain....from your list my choice would be the G17.

Like JonNTO said. And, if you shoot on a regular basis, the cost of ammo will be the main cost of practicing the sport, and you will enjoy it more if you chose a gun that you really like.

That has come to mind and is another pro for the Glock.

Glock is bulletproof... The M&P's are good for the money too, but I wouldn't put it on the same level as the Glock. I own a Gen4 17, its a great gun. By no means a tac-driver like high end 1911's or other accuracy pistols, but once you get comfortable with it and get some practice behind the trigger on it, you'll love it.

As someone else said too, G22 (.40cal) you can purchase a LW barrel in 9mm, so you'd have the option of both... and further down the road if ammo is still too expensive... AA .22 conversion kit will save you lots of money in ammo. Super simple/quick take down makes it ridiculously fast and easy to switch back between calibers... my $0.02

Go with the Glock - you have already stated that it is at the top - based on ergonomics?
Or...
If you can, be patient and try each one at the range from others who own them.
This is a good way to get feedback for yourself.
If the ergos are good, start with that.
Then if you want to change the sights, trigger etc that can be done later depending on the model.
I imagine that the Glock may have an advantage here.
Good luck and see if you can test fire them first.

I think you answered your own question with the G17. But IMO the M&P is way better on ergonomics and you can pull the trigger on the M&P for takedown like the Glock. You don't have to use the sear disconnect lever if you don't want to. The internal parts are a bit harder but you don't usually have to take those apart when cleaning your gun. M&P 9 Carry and Range Kit is the best deal out there right now. I have 2 Glocks and 2 M&P's and like the 5" M&P Pro Series the best. I don't own a SR9 so I can't help you there.
