Help... I want to start collecting pieces, but I am not sure what I need....
So I need the forestock, handguard, and nose cap, barrel bands.... Anything else??
Bayonet attachment? Was this ground off?
#1 mk III ... What is the difference with the '*' ? Is all mkIII wood compatible?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge... The more I read, the more confused I get
If you have pieces I can use msg me...

Thank you... Thank you ... Thank you....

Here is a bunch of pics....

Welcome to the club! I'm also unsporterizing a No.1, and it's great fun and a challenge too. I've been slowly collecting pieces for the last 3 years or so, and I'm almost ready to put things together as my winter project. Watch the EE for various Enfield bits for the No.1, and Numrich carries forends, the hardest part to find. There are two handguards: front and rear. Bayonet attachment is part of the nose cap. Marstar has some parts, and a very useful exploded diagram with numbered parts and their names. Read it carefully, maybe print off a copy and start crossing off parts as you go. There are some swivels and nose cap bits you'll need, too.
I may have some spare bits coming up, I haven't yet decided what wood to go with on my restoration.

When it comes to all things Enfield, I find this website invaluable: http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72
...and this one too: http://forums.gunboards.com/forumdisplay.php?55-The-Lee-Enfield-Forum

Its not just as simple as getting the parts and fastening it all together. Don't let that fluster you though, it is do able and you will not screw it up. You will need to do a lot of research into it going into doing the job. There are a few guys here who are very good at teaching the new guys how to stock up a LE properly. No1 and No4 do have some similarities on how they bed at the receiver end of things, but at the front end things are very different. The manuals in the Lee-Endield knowledge library tell exactly how it was to be done, but you will need to know what the different parts of the fore end are and what they are talking about. Bigedp51 on here has done some excellent write ups recently in a few threads with great pictures that explain it all. Louthepou is very good at explaining it to someone without a history in LEs, he took the time to teach me in a number of PM's and his help was priceless in helping me to understand. If you get stuck I myself would be glad to help you where I can. Also there are a few things you will need to watch for even on a new old stock fore end, the damned crack can be present even in a new one. They also sometimes warp with age.

Good luck, take it slow and have fun. You can make it a tack driver!

I tried searching Bigedp51, and got nothing. Ive never had any luck trying to search topics, or names, or anything for that matter.... Ive been on the milsurp forum, but Im going to go back and look some more... Any specific titles I should read??

Found a rear handguard today in Woodstock... seems too tight to slide around the sides of the rear site. Tried it on another rifle I have to the same effect. Maybe just needs a little sanding? No hurry though, Im sure I'll be a while gathering pieces. Ordered a nose cap from Marstar. Found the forestock at Numrich. Nobody has the front handguard. My wife is going to print me off the schematic for me at work , and then I can figure out what other screws and parts i need...

Thank you flying pig, Im sure I'll have questions, I appreciate the offer....

I bought a NOS front hand guard here off the EE a couple months ago after searching for most of a year. It didn't fit around the rear sight either and had to be fitted. If you wait until all of your pieces are here and start at the butt, then fit and bed the fore end, then make everything else fit each other it will turn out perfect.

Some parts showed up this week.... stock from numrich is perfect... the nosecap from marstar is fine but it was painted yellow??? made me think of some painted up enfields someone posted somewhere here.....

This looks like it could be a commercially done sporter. If so it might have some value as is. You might want to check before you get too far into it.

If you can support a local dealer or a site sponsor, do it. I grabbed a stock off of eBay, it came with all the parts. I used an exploded diagram off the web to assemble.

I made a coffee table/gun display.

Before anyone blasts me...
I do keep a trigger lock on it. And the only reason there's a American Flag in there is it looks better on display (I didn't find it appropriate folding the Maple Leaf).

Ok, update time.... So I decided another BSA I had was going to be the candidate. I do need to get it crowned (It has some pitting) Actually the thing was rusty as hell when I acquired it. Inside looks good, and the wood will hide a lot of barrel pits... I had to work a couple spots on the forestock (looks new to me) to get it to fit (very minor) I have been looking for how to bed it , but have not found anything. Can someone link me to it? Next, I was trying the handguard. The swivel band is miles from closing over the two pieces. The hinge is seated in the recess at the top. It just looks like I need to remove a lot of material in the grove were the band seats. Is this normal? Maybe I received a different size band for another model by mistake? Thanks again guys!
