Inspire me in terms of a concept on my next purchase. What cartridge and gun do you suggest to round out my battey a little. I was thinking big or small for obvious reasons.

At the suggestion of a poster I Edited to add:

I have hunted Moose, elk, deer waterfowl and upland birds for years and wouldn't mind trying my hand at sheep, goats, varmints, hogs etc. in the coming years.

My current battery:

rifles:
Husky lightwieght with 3X9 in 7mm Rem Mag
Ithica lightwieght with fixed 4X in .308
Savage model 99 with lyman peep sight in .300 savage
L.E. in .303 X 2

Shotguns:
berretta semi in 20 gauge
remington pump in 12 gauge

Get rid of them and buy one good rifle, chambered in anything from 7-08 to 300Winchester, then buy a 223, and finally a bigger bore, like a 375 or 45/70 or 9.3x 62 or whatever you like...

you could also sell all your 7mm-30 cal stuff and use the $ to buy a good 6.5 or mild 7mm, and then buy a 338 mag or 375

if it needs more gun than a 7-08, dont bother reaching for a 300 mag

A plinker ( .22 ) a varmint piece ( .223/.22-250/.243) and a boomer (.338/35Whelan/375 H7H) a 410 pump for S & G and probably a nice 28 ga. SxS for upland. Then add a good Trap Gun, Skeet Gun, Sporting Clays Gun.

By then, you should be broke. :D

A better response might occur if you were to say whether or not you hunt, what you hunt, what you would like to hunt, or what you would like to accomplish with this battery/collection. ;)

Edited the original to reflect your suggestion regarding my hunting preferences. What I want to accomplish - I want another gun and need to justify it to myslef and others! It's a disease.:D

Thanks everyone else keep the suggestions coming.

You have a 7mm, .308 and .300 Savage. That's a pretty good set up right there. My favorite, the .300 Winchester could fill the bigger gun, or you could go up to a .338 Winchester. I would also suggest the previously mentioned .22 rifle. Their just plain fun. If your into long range varminting, a .223 would be good. But if you just want to have some fun, and are willing to reload, go with a .22 Hornet.

I went through kind of the same thing over the last year. I have so far ended up with:
Cooey 64B .22 LR
Winchester 94 .30-30
Weatherby Vangard .243 Win
Remington 700 Mountain LSS .30-06
Remington Wingmaster 12 ga 3" w/ 30" & 18.5" barrels
Stoeger P-350 camo 12 ga 3.5" (won in DU raffle)
Norc NP 34 9mm
Norc 1911C .45 ACP
Colt Frontier Scout .22LR

I am thinking about trading the .30-30 for a .45-70 and am also toying with getting a .338 or the like but must say I feel I am pretty well covered for anything I plan on hunting.
