So I've been playing with my bare XCR-M long enough. Time to get dome gear for it.

I've decided on a two point sling as this rifle won't be for cqb type range shooting. I like my single point but I'm thinking of going with the Vickers sling, since it's on sale and it's functional. Any idea how it will mount? Earl Green had a nice setup on his AR platform and it was convincing.

Recommend a quick detach sling mount for the monolithic rail, and how does it fasten to the butt? there is just a single hole in the butt stock, so not sure what fasteners are available.

I am also a little lost with optics. I like the Nikon product (I also have a nikon DSLR and like the quality of their lenses). I don't want to sell the rifle short by just dropping a red dot on it. I was looking at Elcan 4x variable sights but I'm not too sure. Ideally I see shooting this rifle between <100 meters and out to maybe 3-400 meters. It's not a bolt action, I have no dreams of firing off 5-600 m shots in the bush. I just want a fun .308 that can give some variety.

I think I'll leave the flash hider unless someone can find me something spectacular. I'm also looking for a pistol grip. I tend to lean towards the simple HOGUE overmold with finger grooves. I find it comfortable for my long fingers.

Insight is appreciated. I'll update this post as the project progresses.

I used a Daniel defence qd socket mount on the rail.
For optics, don't get crazy wih the magnification, it ain't a precision rifle, anything in the 1-8 power range is lots.
That's a 1-4 swfa on there.

Viking tactical padded is real nice sling. quick detach cadex mount for the side rail and i just loop the rear of sling around the fast stock near the butt. works perfect.
i like the adm quick release scope mount and i put a vortex viper 1-4 in it that would prob work nice for the ranges you are looking at.

Here is the XCR-M that came in the mail yesterday.

I normally equip my rifles with Elcan Spectre DR's, Aimpoint's, or NightForce optics, but I decided to do this one with budget in mind.

Here is the run down.....

OD green XCR-M

These XCR-M shoot very good, they are with the right load MOA rifle or very close to it, soon mine will wear an Elcan Spectre 1.5X6... 7.62X51, i was waiting to see the potential and now i know they deserve top glass... JP.

My sling is mounted the same as NTM's except with a Midwest QD socket. GG&G QD swivels are tight in the buttstock QD point, the Midwest swivel does not fit. Keep in mind you may have to try a couple swivels before you find one that actually fits. As soon as Dlask gets their adapters out I'll be swapping to an Ergo F93 and using the QD sockets on that. The VCAS slings are excellent especially for the price. I went with a padded VCAS and couldn't be happier so far.

So I went out and picked up some basic necessities.

Big thanks to CTCS for hooking me up! Fast response by email and quick mailing.

I ordered 8, wish I would have just ordered all 12. Fortunately, I should have 4 more from another source tomorrow.

Maybe I'll throw a couple up on the EE for $75? Oh wait....My name isn't crash7366, or Brordo

I went looking at optics today, Started off with the Bushnell 6500 series and the Bushnell elite 4500. Probably go with a Burris PEPR mount. Thoughts?

here is my final set up ...

I ditched the MTAC 1-4x as I am not a fan of the huge reticle, and went with the Nightforce 2.5-10x33 Compact...works very nice with the .308 platform.

Good choice on the scope, I originally had the same one on mine but then I went with a mark 4 4.5-14 after for little more magnification.
