Other than just plinking and shooting from the bench what are some of the things people of the black rifle forum practice when they shoot their rifles?

Are there a few extras i should buy like a good sling or is the one that comes with it fine? I'd like to learn the irons first so a red-dot is out of the question for the time being.

Any good resources to look at with regards to technique and form?

Anything I can do at home?

Thanks,

Dave

get a good sling! like a BFG Vickers

start doing drills to build muscle memory like low ready to target "tap tap" they get a low ready move on the way up to target "tap tap" do lots of mag change drills get yourself some snap caps and get someone to load your mag so you will not know when you gun will go click!work that in to your drills

it's what I do

oh I must add Master your Irons first they will never fail!

Indeed. That was my first consideration along with price. I will probably be shooting both matches this year with my irons (I'd say a 99% chance). :D

That BFG Vickers sling, would it be decent for hiking too? I tend to slouch forward when going up a steep grade so would it keep the gun close to my body so it doesn't drag? Possibly being able to keep two hands free at the same time? Or am I dreaming?

Any other slings out there that would fit a VZ that I should consider?

+1....get a vickers.

Add lots o' dry practice. More speed reloads than tactical reloads for competition. Static turning drills are good.

Or, you could just take a course from a experienced trainer based on your usage.

These are? You'll have to excuse me, I'm new at all of this.

I do want to learn but I lack the funds at the moment to take a course. Anything I can do on my own would be ideal right now.

Get into reloading. Good ammo is essential. Plan 'B' is to try as many brands and bullet weights of factory as you can to find the ammo your rifle shoots best.

I punched 'tactical reload' on to google and received 642,000 responses for tactical reload. (0.11 seconds). I typed 'speed reload' into google and got 1,600,000 for speed reload. (0.12 seconds). So, you may be new at shooting and such but you can use a computer.

Anyone who wants a Vicker sling should contact One Shot Tactical

Where can i get a vickers? sounds like good stuff

One shot tactical carries them. (Forum sponsor)
I got one for my AR180 a couple of weeks ago, and I am thoroughly impressed. Very simple design, but very effective for everything from slinging it while on the march, to using it as support when firing from a standing position.

Oh, and as far as what to do with your rifle, besides what the esteemed moderators and others have already pointed out, I like to "time" myself on targets.
Have someone ready with a stopwatch. they call "fire" and you have X number of seconds to go from a pre-determined carry posoition to a firing position and then get two rounds down range and on target. A little pressure can certainly point out where your week spots are!!
