Hey all,
One more project on the way ! This time : An all-around truck shotgun! Now, the platform will likely be can-am's mag fed 870. But from there, I don't know where to go. I wish for the shortest possible shotgun ( ideally 26.1" ) while retaining a folding stock. Looking at either a copstock or an overfolder. So here comes the questions :

1- Does all 870 look-alikes feature the same receiver lenght?

2- I know Knoxx offered a mag/drum conversion for 870's but can't seem to find it, are they stiff producing it and are they legal up here?

3- How long must the barrel be to retain non-restricted status, considering the lenght of receiver and stock hinge?

4- Since shotguns are smoothbore, and CFc measures barrels with rifling, would something like a welded breacher end increase barrel lenght?

5- What is the minimum barrel lenght for a surefire forend to fit ?

6- To come!

Here's some answers for you...although all of this info is available if you poke through this sub-forum or use the search function.

If you buy an 870 with a 14" barrel, and then tack on a Knoxx breacher's grip or specops folder, it will be just over 26" according to the knowledgeable folks at TSE, 14" barrel + breacher's grip = non-restricted goodness!

I can't confirm this first-hand as my current 870 has an 18" barrel, and my future shorty project is still in the pre-buy stage.

I hear that the Knoxx mag system is no longer a going concern.

As far as surefire fore-ends go, anything that keeps the standard forearm length (10.5" or greater) will probably work fine.

I would not bet on a breacher's style muzzle brake increasing the legal length of your barrel. You're probably better off just buying a 14" barrel.

4- Since shotguns are smoothbore, and CFc measures barrels with rifling, would something like a welded breacher end increase barrel lenght?

Not an issue... as long as the barrel is manufactured new (not hacksawed) it doesn't matter what length it is (it's a pump gun, not semi-auto).
