Help - My RPAL is stuck at the CFO **Problem solved in page 3 post**

If you can't call your CFO, you can always call both your M.P. and your M.P.P./M.N.A./M.L.A.

They'll be "allowed" to call your CFO.

Gahhhh, this government inefficiency is driving my crazy.

Honestly I can't believe it's taking as long as it is. I tried calling the firearms hot line a few times, and every time I ask "can I call the CFO to ask why it's taking so long?" and they say no. The CFO doesn't take calls. This is crazy talk.

I wish I had that job security. If I took more than two times the amount of time to get my work done, I wouldn't have a job for very long. Yet somehow this guy (girl) takes 100+ days to do what he should in less than 45, and he's not accountable to anyone? C'mon.

I have a PAL, and I've never committed a crime in my life (which they should already be aware of since I have my PAL!!). This is just craziness and wild inefficiency - The government at its best.

What they told is NOT true. Just call your CFO office and ask them if your application is in order and/or what the delay is. Just be polite.

I'm not sure i understand your story, but the bottom line is this : you can't join a club UNLESS you have obtained your RPAL. So explain to me exactly how you show proof of membership to a club, when the licence you are trying to obtain is a requirement to join one??? Be it in alberta or anywhere else, thats just not possible.

You can actually join a club without (R)PAL and without owning a firearm. You can shoot ONLY if directly supervised by a license-owner.

My club (RA Ottawa) asks/requires that by the time you renew your first membership that you have acquired a (R)PAL to relieve the demands on licensed supervisors.

So to summarize I love this web site - I did some snooping and found a thread with the answer to my question.

Chief Firearms Officer of Ontario
Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services
777 Memorial Avenue
Orillia, ON L3V 7V3

Tel: (705) 329-5522
Fax: (705) 329-5623

I called them and a friendly woman answered the phone. I gave her my basic info and she was able to pull the file up quickly and said the file was going to be reviewd by her team leader. She transfered me over and of course the team leader didn't answer. Dissapointedly I left a message and hung up thinking it would be days before I got the call -back.

Turns out I only had to wait an hour. She (Catherine) processed it right away while I was on the phone and answered a few of my questions in the meantime.

Basically if you're ever in my situation - CALL THE CFO and they'll look at it right away.
