I've decided on Stainless Synthetic 300 WSM after much research and communication with others for my new do it all rifle. I Also want to keep my base rifle 6.5 lbs or less and it may tag along on the odd goat and sheep hunt. But what I'm having trouble deciding is which rifle to buy. I've owned 3 different Browning A-Bolts over the past 30 years and they have all been nothing short of spectacular! . All 3 shot sub MOA with cheap ammo, and even better with reloads.

I've admired the sako Finlight for a while now and almost pulled the pin on one locally, as it was great deal but then I read a bunch of threads on how the 11" rate of twist on the Finnlight 300 wsm doesn't like the 180 ammo, but does better with 150's etc. I'm wanting this new rifle to shoot 180 grain bullets as I have a 270. which isn't far off the 150 300wsm.

I read the X-bolt is 10" twist and does well with the 180's. Now I've never owned an X-Bolt so I'm not sure they shoot as well as the A-Bolts did. I also like the Winchester SS but at a starting weight of 7lbs I struck it from the list. I've also never owned a Tika T3 lite and have no idea how it would do with the 300 wsm.

Any experiences you guys can share to help ease the decision making process would be appreciated.
Thanks

The X-bolt is an excellent choice as well, one thing to look into though, the WSM is a short fat little f'er and many rifles have smaller magazine capacity, when your used to carrying three or five rounds, you'll be carrying two or three.

The X-bolts shoot as tightly as the A-bolts from what I've seen, I like the Tikka as well, but for a WSM I think I'd get the X-bolt.

The sako is fussy but it shoots lights out with 180 grain bullets. 69 grains RL22 with 180 grain boattails and good as it gets. My buddy got one last year and fussed with it until he used the above load. I am currently shooting an A bolt in 300 wsm and I find it does exactly what I want it to do. Been thinking about a finnlight as well but the extra cost for an extra mag, rings & bases is just stupid expensive. My son is shooting an a bolt as well but 200 grain accubonds. 4 yrs in a row now he got an elk with it & most were one shot. I know there are a lot of wsm haters but it would be hard for me to switch to anything else.

I use an A Bolt in 300 WSM as my moose/elk rifle. I have no issues with accuracy and using 180 grain bonded bullets they go where I want them too. I do find however that the recoil is brutal, yes I'm a panty waisted 160 lb old guy and I will admit to being recoil sensitive, but even with a limbsaver that thing kicks the crap out of me, but I keep using it because the bullets go fast to where you want them to.
