Hello Gunnuters

i need help for my custom 6mmBR project

i've a rem 700 vls in 243 with a leupold vx III 6.5 X 20

i had a hard time to choose what caliber i want
i was stuck between 308 and 6mmBR

i just want to put somes holes in paper at 600 yards

i'm a better handgunner that a rifleman but the interest in long range is growing

i can't afford a custom action so i'm thinking off keeping my 700 action
gitting it trued
then get a Kreiger or LILJA barrel in 6mm 1:7 twist to shoot heavy bullet
and at the end getting a jewell trigger with the safety(not a big fan of benchrest triggers)

so where can i get all those things for my project
and what barrel lenght is recommended for 6mmBR( i was thinking of 30 in...)

thanks for your help

philippe

Krieger Barrels- www.riflebarrels.ca
Jewel Triggers - PM Mysticplayer

My 2 - 6BR's on trued Rem single shot actions have each had 28" 1:8 twist Barrels shooting 107grn Sierra's and 105grn Bergers. My next build will be on a 700 platform.

See my thread HERE on my latest 6BR build with Krieger barrel.

6BR is THE cartridge to beat out to 600m with the 105/107grn bullets being pushed with Varget lit by CCI BR4 or 450 primers and is easy to tune.

Have it chambered for no neck turn Lapua brass and use only Lapua brass... you will never be sorry...

Some people like to have a "Tight Neck" chamber (such as Benchrest shooters) which means that virgin brass would need to be neck turned before firing, by making a "No Turn Neck" chamber means you can shoot the Lapua brass right out of the box without having to neck turn if you so desire.....or don't desire for that matter :D

The Redding Comp Die only neck SIZES the brass....it does not neck turn.

You probably will not have to neck turn the Lapua brass but if you have the equipment (or can get access to it) it is a good idea to clean them up 50-80%.

A lot of accuracy shooters will turn the neck diameter of their brass in order to try and make it more accurate. The chamber must also be cut with a "tight neck" reamer for best results... this is a good thing to do with lower quality brass in a lot of cases... but...

Lapua makes such accurate brass that this procedure is a wasted effort... it is much simpler to have the chamber cut with a minimum match quality reamer made for Lapua brass and use quality dies. I have one of these reamers and it works very well.

For paper out to 600 definately go with the 6BR. I have mine set up as a varminter with a slower twist barrel to shoot 75 grain bullets and it certainly does the job.

Phil:

Good advice above and also try Lapua bullets in 90 and 105 grain. Who is your gunsmith? Good one above plus others on this list.
