I'm looking at a Webley .455 that is as best as I can figure a mkIII commercial.

Features:

- mkVI barrel and cylinder (barrel is 6" and clearly marked VI in the normal place)
- broad head stamps on most parts other than the frame
- frame has birds head shaped grip like a mk1, mk2, mk3, mk4, and mk5 (nice wood grips)
- frame is drilled and taped for the later mk3 and on cylinder retention lever
- serial number 24,### is on the right side of the frame
- winged bullet and webley patents stamped on left side of frame but no model

Is this a markIII, mkIV, or mkVI and what year is it?

Thanks for any help.

Judging by your pictures on flickr (they aren't showing up in the thread but are view-able if you click on "A H") I'd say that is most certainly a Webley WG, it has the grip "hump" that is not found on MK2, MK3, MK4, etc and it also has the distinctive "church steeple" cylinder flutes

I can't remember the dates but the winged solid base bullet stamp was used after the combining of Webley and Scott. Webley and Sons used a winged hollow base bullet

Looks like it is a Mk4. Here is the link to the add where it is for sale, the owner seems legitimate based on exchanging a few emails.

It is on the Gunfencepost sight (remove the fence).

Apparently I can't post the link but you can likely reverse engineer it.

The WG in my Flicker is a separate gun that a friend owns.

So sorry that is my bad on the WG, however now that I see the gun on that ad I recall it sold at a recent Ward's Firearms Auction (August 17, 2019) included in the images for the auction ad is also a picture of a letter from the Webley research archives which state it is likely a combination of a MK6 upper and a MK4 or 5 lower

Here is the link to the auction ad: ht tps://www.icollector.com/Restricted-Webley-Model-Mark-VI-455-Rev-Cal-6-Shot-Revolver-w-152-mm-bbl-c-w-mahogany-fitted-c_i34088045

Personally I would say it is most likely a MK3 or MK4 as it has the improved ejector mechanism but the Webley markings are different than on the MK5, Mooncoon is on the right track with the Webley logo here as it changed a few times with company restructures

The year was 1897. Anything with the Winged minneball stamp is definitely antique.
