Hello and good afternoon,

I am doing a quasi M40A1 build and want a better trigger assembly then what came with the Remington 700. Any thoughts on a after market trigger that will resemble a M40A1 visually and function? My pockets aren't bottomless so cost should be average. I was thinking a Timney, but what one? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

If you're going aftermarket, why not upgrade function? (My rem700 triggers are adjustable and crisp as a Granny Smith in June) if I were to swap any for aftermarket though, I would get something 2stage and "dangerzone" light, since I don't shoot precision under stress.

Anything aftermarket that has a trigger shoe resembling a Remington trigger would work. Thats a pretty small detail that would only spoil an OCD level build, and if it’s quasi there’s no reason to have a split sear, tombstone safety Remington trigger. I have a old style 40x trigger in my current M40A1 build so it has the same appearance but easy adjustment as well.

I’ve always been happy with the old generation Remington triggers provided they were above 2.5 lbs. I’m not a fan of the newer generation Remington triggers but that’s just me.

And if you’re going to run a modified M70 trigger guard and floor plate you will have to cut out a section of the trigger housing on whatever trigger you decide on.

A rifle basix LV-1 looks like factory Remington for instance, but I don’t have first hand experience with them as far as quality. I have Jewell’s and CG on some other guns but they don’t resemble factory triggers at all.

I built four using model 40x repeater rifles, model 70 trigger guards and McMillan stocks years ago
MAC in Atlanta Georgia built this model in the 1970's to go along with their Sionic 's Silencers and
MAC 10's

I was thinking a Timney 510. I already forked out for a McMillan stock and a 1-8 twist 5.56 barrel, so a few hundred more or less isn't going to kill me. I hope LOL. I'm not doing a true M40A1 more a Transitional M40A1. A cross between a M40 and M40A1. Using the Badger Ordnance Vietnam M40 scope mount and a Stocky's over sized tactical bottom metal. Toping it off with a Leupold Tactical AR 3x9 or possibly the Hi-Lux black M40. I have a green M40 but its on my Vietnam Scout/Sniper M40.

That sounds like it will be a fun rig, 5.56 will be fun to shoot.

I have variations in all of my “clone” guns as well, all have oversized recoil lugs for instance, and the current and past A1 builds had contoured aluminum pillars as well so I strayed from spec a bit. They’re not real after all so I don’t get too crazy with details.

I wouldn't have thought of doing a .223/5.56, but since the government is stealing several of my toys, I am left with a lot of ammo. Besides it will be cheaper then shooting 7.62 all the time. I eventually want to get into reloading, once I shoot enough and have empty brass. Seems to be the logical step. I have done the OCD thing with early projects. In my experience, I spend money trying to get every little detail right and it never really works. So I have made it a point, to get close enough and try not to go nuts along the way LOL. Very hard sometimes, to say the least LOL Some of my AR projects will attest to that.

Go to a local gunsmith, they usually have dozens of old Remington Walker-style original triggers lying around their shops. Have them properly adjust it and BINGO! They typically charge $30-$40 for them. Don’t believe the hype about the walker fire control system, pure BS. Don’t believe me, ask Keith Cunningham from MilCun.
