OK

I just got my first 870 and I would like to change the fore end on it.

I dont have the fore end wrench to remove the fore end and this is my first time as well to try this.

So I dont want to strip anything - so unless one you would be nice enuff to loan me your fore grip wrench ( yes I can give you a deposit plus rental on it )

Any good advice to help me would be awesome !

I cut a piece of flat aluminum just wide enough to fit in the slots in the nut. I use a pair of vise grips to hold it. Works like a charm.

ive been using the bolt carrier to unscrew the forend nut since i got my first 870.
and dont worry - you are not going to damage it - theyre quite hardened and i cant discern so much as a scratch after using them like this dozens of times.

I had a Mastercraft socket (13 or 14mm I think) machined with two teeth to engage the nut. Now I can put it on a ratchet. Before having that made I used the needle nose pliers - until I bought an 870 that was so seized no force other than a hammer used on the rachet broke the nut loose. Also, the flat piece of bar stock as mentioned works well. You can then use another piece of flat stock that slots over the first one for more leverage. Good luck.

Interesting idea regarding using the bolt carrier .... I have never heard of that but it does make sense that Remington somehow made it in such a way that all the "tools" needed for a detailed strip are all included within the gun itself ....
