Hey guys and gals.

I am currently looking for a new .22, and will be trying to sell my old one. I don't really know much about it, and was hoping someone here would be able to shed some light on how old it may be, and what the approximate value may be.

The gun is a Cooey model 64. On the barrel it says...

Cooey Made in Canada by Winchester Western Canada Limited Model 64 22 cal auto LR

The gun is in good shape, and has a few scuffs on the stock. It shoots really accurately, and has been a fairly reliable gun. It has a plastic clip to it, and every once in awhile I have to get a new spring for the clip, but other then that it works great. It just has open sights on it. I'm really only selling it to get an A/R looking one.

So do any of you guys n gals out there know anything about it, like where in western Canada it would have been made, or the approximate age, and lastly around what value should I REALISTICALLY be selling it for. Any other thoughts and info would be great!
Forgive my picture taking too, I am living proof that ya can buy an expensive camera, and still take ####ty picture with it!

The original stocks had a rabbit motif pressed into them. Yours is an early model before they started to convert the plastic mag and L-bracket to the white metal mag and mag well. I have had 3 of them and value them at $100-$150. The plastic mag to some may be as valuable as the rest of the gun.

They are great guns, and for what you are going to get for it, I would keep it.
That way you have two (you live in SK, you need at least 2) and when you inevitably tire of the "tactical" semi or need a spare for a friend, you still have your reliable piece of canadiana.

X2 with the nice wood that yours has on it, I would think a very fair asking price would be 200.00+ 1/2 shipping.

That is a very clean example.

I've just moved to Moose Jaw. I had one, but was having issues with it. That being said, if this one functions flawlessly, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands if you were looking to get rid of it. PM me if you're interested in arranging something.

Thanks very much for the replies fella's. Im not much of a collector, and I do have a nice old cooey bolt action for a back up .22 and I may end up not selling it, but its nice to know it still holds a little value in it.

I wont even bother to mention what I paid for it 10 years ago haha.

The first Cooey 64, plastic mag I bought was $50 with 3 extra mags. Excellent shape and cycled great. But that does not affect the value of them as of recently. All my Cooey 64 models with plastic mag were made first 2 years of manuf. But Winchester took over in 1961, apparently long after the plastic model Cooeys were available, after 2 years, they were equipped with a metal mag and magwell. Thus , I may be mistaken, but it looks like a parts gun. As I do not know when the Olin Co. started stamping barrels with the Winchester logo. The woods are interchangeable from first issue til Savage took over. After that, I have not tried the Savage stock with a Cooey actioned barrel.

Please correct me if I am mistaken. I do bow to superior knowlege.

I may be wrong but I thought the model 64 was not introduced until 1964, hence its model name. Though the 64 was being designed in 1958 ,it had to wait for Winchester to finish it and bring it to market. I have a 64 with plastic clip new in box and it has a plain stock like the one pictured. I believe you could get the plain stocked version or the deluxe model which had the checkering with the rabbit. Also, I believe the owner will have a long wait trying to get $200.00 for a used 64. I only paid $200.00 for mine unused with the box and manual last year from another collector. You can see on a few sites that people are trying to sell used 64's and the variations for anywhere from $125.00 up to $275.00. One can also see that any of them priced beyond $150.00 are usually not selling.

That is a good question. I hadn't given it much thought until awhile ago as one would think that Winchester would have gone to that practice right away. However, I have a presentation model 60 gun that was given by Mr. D.H. Cooey to a salesman. The original letter with the gun states that it was one of the last model 60's to roll off the line during the Winchester take over. The barrel is not stamped Winchester and it is dated June, 1964. I also had a model 39 that I gave to my brother last year. It looked exactly the same as another older 39 that I have (that just says Cooey) right down to the walnut stock. I thought the one I gave him was from around 1961 or 2 but maybe it was a little later. However, Winchester didn't wait too long before they started cutting costs and using hardwood stocks. Anyhow, it says Cooey/Winchester on the barrel. So who knows for sure.

but now you are asking for $200?

I woulda bought it for spare parts if it was cheaper. Just my 0.02cents

There were a total of 2 different values that were mentioned in this thread before I had put up my for sale add in the EE. Now if someone is asking the value of the gun, gets a total of 2 different values, well I'm pretty sure you can see why i chose the price in my add!

Throw me an offer if ya want it, I only bite women, and the worst I can say is no, or negotiate!

Winnipeg Toymaker, and Gunaholic thanks again for your knowledge and input, I will be dropping the price in my add next week when its "legal" for me to do so, to 150 bucks or best offer.

Maybe someone can chime in, but as far as I know, you can "edit" your add anytime. You just can't "bump it to the top" sooner than a week.

I am interested in your subject here because I have a similar Cooey I paid $175 shipped, which works out to $150 in the sellers hand. I was happy to get it for that at the time. I will be happy to get that for it when I sell.

ok well the model 64 is still made by savage it retails 179.99 so i'd say $200 is a little high... If it had a metal mag You'd get $130 shipped for it easy.. The plastic mag's are a pain to replace so really it should be worth about $100 but not many people know how hard it can be to find a spare mag.. so i'd go ahead and ask the $130
