after a long affair with the ar15, I want to get an ar-10.
not looking to break the bank, so there are a couple of paths I'm looking at. just not sure which is a better way.

s&w m&p 10, comes with a 18 inch barrel, I want a 12-14inch barrel. so that seems to be a long, expensive way if possible.

or building one from scratch. I have looked through the various venders here, and have found little. so if anyone can assist in this endeavor I would be indebted to you.

restricted is what I want, thank you in advance.

How much do a restricted one cost?

You can build a Stag 10 for $1800.
There’s not a whole lot of diff between the two.

a m&p 10 is around 1700.00 if you're lucky.
not at all interested in the non restricted versions unfortunately, it has to be ar.

wondering if I should have posted this in the irunguns section.

more help please:)

There's this one if you have the budget:

Or this one if you don't:

thank you.

that armalite is sweet, but by the time I have my hands on it, I'd be expecting to be about 3k out of pocket. I do like the m&p10, and the dpms GII for price point, but am not too sure of building off one of those, dpms would likely by my choice if that route is taken.
the armalite is possible, but man, I have some heavy duty sweet talking to do, or the mrs will be buying a new car lol.

It's no harder to assemble a decent 308-AR than an AR-15, and it doesn't have to be excessively costly. I would recommend using as many Aero Precision M5 parts as possible...upper and lower receiver, BCG, handguard and M5 LPK in particular. It's not too hard to find a shorter .308 barrel, although 12-14" might be a bit of a challenge. I just ordered a 16" Anderson barrel from TNA...they might be able to help you out with a shorter barrell, or know who could. Buffer tubes and stocks are no big deal...you might have spares already. Sights, muzzle devices, again not a big deal.

Shooting an 308-AR [be careful...AR-10 often refers specifically to the Armalite platform rifles which aren't compatible with the DPMS style LR-308, which is the other major design group. Also, Armalite rifle fans can get sniffy...]]...anyhow, shooting a 308-AR is a very satisfying experience, esp. if you use the 10-round pistol magazines. It's worth taking your time and sourcing the right parts. Coincidentally, Brownell's has a bunch of Aero Precision parts on sale right now...

thanks Tengoo.

I contacted a dealer not far from me, to see what he can source. he found a 16 inch dpms oracle in 308. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger, and then modding it later.
thanks again.

Aha! Not a terrible choice at all. I first bought a DPMS/Panther Arms LR-308 AP4, and it's a pretty decent rifle. Naturally I couldn't leave it alone, so I added a CMC trigger, a Matador Arms hammerhead, a low-profile gas block, and I'll be putting a Aero Precision handguard and heavier barrel on it, just because. I got a great deal on this rifle, as there was a sell-off of DPMS .308s after the GII rifles were introduced. Anyway, have fun with it!

thanks again. I've heard good things, so I'm less hesitant to pull the trigger.

Keep an eye on the EE and have a bit of patience. That is where I found my PWS MK 112 .308 AR with 12.5" Barrel. There is another on the EE right now for $2200 listed by lawabidingcitizen. Suss him out, you never know - it could end up yours and solve your quest! Here is mine:

I passed on the dpms, it was a first gen.

I have found upper/lower stag10 at armseast. it seems decent enough, or comparable to the aero's.
still processing, barrels, buffers yadayada.
thanks again.

wish there was a thread on building your own ar10, ar15's no problem it seems lol.
