I have a dilemma. I have some money burning a hole in my pocket but I don't know how to spend it. I've always had a thing for the XTR, in particular the 7.62x39 version, but he initial cost is a bit of a deterrent. Other options I've considered are the AR-15 and the VZ58. I like the idea of non restricted but I don't have anywhere around here to shoot other than a range and it will just be used for range trips.

The longest range around here is 100m, so the 7.62x39 is appealing due to cost. any suggestions?

The Norinco M4 for $699 is a heck of a deal! We have two of them with 14.5 inch barrels... Reliable, accurate & FUN!

Cheers
Jay

7.62 are cheap, however as your first black gun the VZ is the most practical choice in your price range, they are upgradable as time goes on.

I would say if your always shooting @ the range anyways go for a AR. I just got a CORE 15 and really like it but if I were you I would be jumping on the Daniel Defense AR's that have been rolling in

My vote is for the CZ858 - even though it's technically red you can make it black with the mountain of aftermarket goodies for it. With the price of 7.62 you will be able to shoot alot more. Check out the hickock45 video on youtube where he talks about them and compares them to AK's.

I'm in the same boat as you. I like my CZ way more than any AR....

So the consensus is that the XTR isn't worth the extra money over a VZ58?

XTR?

I assume you mean the Robinson Armament XCR, right?

For that, it's a good platform, it has had some teething issues, but the newer ones are quite good from what I've heard. Is it worth the extra money? That depends. The main advantage is it is non-restricted, has the ability to switch calibers and takes AR-15 magazines. If not having those things aren't deal breakers, than the VZ-58 has the advantage of being less than 1/3 the price, 1lb lighter and having a chrome lined bbl.

Yeah, I meant XCR. When is the chrome lined VZ 58 coming out? I'd prefer it non restricted?

Get the non-restricted CZ 858 tactical 2. Great, reliable, affordable, modifyable platform.
I'm not sure I get all the fuss about chrome-lined bbl. I assume it's because lots of people will shoot corrosive ammo through them. I don't know about you guys, but shooting corrosive, I'd still be cleaning mine exactly the same, chrome-lined or not. Plus, I've heard from many people that chrome-lined is actually a bit less accurate (and probably more expensive.)

Honestly, it depends on what YOU want. There's no ultimate truth here. Don't buy a gun you are not truly intesrested in just because someone else said it was a better deal.

YES ,,, this is ultimate truth
